Do not let the fire go out

I have been helping some friends reach their weight loss goals as I have. They are doing well, but one of them does not eat regularly, or not at all for an entire day, and he complains of hunger. (At least he was not purging) I explained how metabolism works to him and I believe it got through. I thought this may help someone here who may be on that path. Here goes:

When we diet, the body must go through junk food withdrawal, just like as if it was drugs. Being hungry is completely natural, especially when we exercise. This is known as the burning fire. You must feed it, but not with the wrong fuel. Think of vegetables and other nutritious foods as lighter fluid, and think of fatty, sugary, starchy foods as bicarbonate. Use these and the fire goes out. The body is an amazing machine. Just like a car, it cannot run without gas. Starvation is never an answer. This is a scientific fact and here is why.

When we were cave people, meals where few and far between. This is because we had to chase our food for sometimes up to 20 miles to catch it. This lack of meals continued into the middle ages. The body has a built in survival mechanism, also called the "primitive brain". When we stop eating for a long amount of time, the metabolism slows way down so we do not die. This is in our blood from our ancestors. But today, we don't have to chase our food like they did, so when we stop eating, we have no energy. This means we cannot get physical, so we lose no weight. It is somewhat of a catch 22.

The trick is that we need to find the balance. Sure, the law of anatomy physiology says we have to expend more calories than we take in to lose weight, but we cannot let the well dry up. Most nutritionist, dieticians, and personal trainers state it is best to eat 6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones. This keeps the fire burning. Eat until you are not hungry anymore, not until you are full. Hope this helps.
