Do Machines Lie?

When I go to the gym. I spend the majority of my time on the machine workout out like the cross trainer and the exercise bike. One a good day I can easily bang out 1300 calories and I monitor my heart rate and it clocks in @ 185 most of the time.

My question is when the machine says I burned 1300 calories is it right? or is it just saying that? Anyone have an idea?

I've read that the machines are +/-25% which really is pretty good.

I used to be an environmental chemist and +/-25% on some EPA pollutants tests (of a known pollutant) was better than average.

machines are not even remotely correct. on top of that, they all include your bmi so you're not burning near what you really think u are.
