Do I need to lift?

I am currently cutting in order to get my bodyfat percentage down, I am not overweight just flabby. I have started running 3 days a week and I was going to lift weights 3 days a week also. Now I have read you can't gain muscle without consuming more calories and you can't lose fat without cutting calories. Well I definately want to cut because I want to reduce my bodyfat by summer, so my question is...Is weight-lifting going to do me any good if I am cutting calories? Or should I just do all aerobic exercises? I do want to get stronger eventually but that's not as important to me as toning up.
 
i think that if you eat more protien you should be able to gain muscle. The more muscle you put on the more calories you will burn during the day which will help you with your goal of getting your body fat down. Try and eat at least 1 gram of protien for every pound you wiegh.

hitting the weights will help with maintaining lean bodyweight and strength levels. dont want to lose that. look at the guy on the subway commercials. :(
 
Thanks, I will stick with my original plan then and lift 3 days a week, just wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting my time.
