I've been lifting since october last year and now hit the weights three days a week three cardio then a day of rest. A bud told me after six months he takes a couple weeks off and is able to lift more. When do you know it's time to take some time off and do you need to?? During this time off should one keep up and replace it with cardio?? Thanks......m

you haven't gotten sick? or gone on a trip? or just missed a couple of workouts ina row that entire time? if not, then maybe a 4 or 5 day break wouldnt hurt. usually if you NEED a break, your body will let you know one way or another. but 6 months is a long time without one..

Definitely agree. I usually take a week off completely at least twice a year.

You really can't go balls to the wall all year long; try training 6 days a week for a month or two at super high intensity; then switch up your program and go a month with 5 training days...etc

Never been sick since I've been working out no colds flu nada. Nope retired life is tough enough lol. Really all I got is my workouts to keep me sane. Don't drive due to a medical condition so I just workout at my house. Want to keep up the cardio so would 7 days cardio be all right? I made a weight vest around 20lbs I'm going to use on my property for running hills and trails if the weather stays nice. I'm not into real heavy weights anyway mostly lower poundage at higher reps. Thanks.......m

The one thing you might try is periodizing your training so that you have different parameters every 3-8 weeks. Change intensity and volume on a regular basis and you should be able to avoid over-training.

I don't think you need 7 days of cardio as it's unneccessary and would more than likely hinder gains.

You might try doing some body weight stuff for a bit or some GPP like Burpees (google em') for a change for a week or so.
