Hi there
just wanting to know.
i have been on a diet 2 years now and i have went from 33 stone down to 20 stone 7 lbs.

i use scales at home and ones in my gym . they both give diffrent readings .

the one in my house says 20 stone 7 and the ones in my gym says 19 stone 7 . the ones in my house can be diffrent alot of the time. its a electrical one and depending how you place it and how you stand on it, it will give you a diffrent reading. the ones in my gym are always the same. give me the same reading and are always in the same place. so what should i do ? what scales do i go by?

any advice would help.

thanks guys

The scale at the gym is obviously a better quality scale and is more repeatable. That doesn't mean it is correct. You could weigh yourself on another good scale, like the one in your doctor's office, and see how that compares. Or, sometimes drug stores have scales.

Well done on your weight loss to date. Whichever scales are actually accurate - you have lost a considerable amount of weight and are the healthier for it. Accurate or not - you can definitely confirm that the trend has things going in the right direction and you are allerted if there is a stall in your weight loss. In some ways then - it is of little matter which one if any is showing the number that would be considered accurate by the weights and measures inspectors...

Since you are not getting a stable reading on your home scales and are at the gym - I suspect that the scales at the gym will be more accurate. You could ask one or two people at the gym whether the weight appears to be reasonable compared to what they are seeing elsewhere. If it is - then it does point to your scales at home being suspect...

It would be a good idea to get on some other scales to see if they confirm the reading that you are seeing at the gym. Your GP should have some scales. If he gives you a reading in Kg you can convert it to stones quite easily. Multiply the Kg weight by 2.2 to convert it into pounds. Then divide the weight in pounds by 14 to get the number of stones... If it is not a whole number - that signifies the pounds left over. Point five signifies half a stone.

You can also get weighed a number of places where the scales should be accurate... In Newcastle market for instance there is a weigh house where I have been weighed. I have heard that there are scales which you can use in larger branches of Boots for instance for a small fee which prints out weight information. Check the internet for information on this kind of thing...

Weighing on multiple scales is an exercise in frustration. :)

Unless you're talking about a set of scales that is professionally calibrated every single day ... then scales are going to vary. You don't know how exact the scales at your house are, and you don't know how exact the scales at your gym are. So if they don't match - it has less to do with you than with the scales.

So don't worry about it. Pick ONE set of scales and use that ONE and ONLY THAT ONE. :) Otherwise, your'e just setting yourself up for stress. Consistency is far more important in this case than in figuring which one is accurate to the fraction of a pound. :)

Assuming your gym has weights why not put a few of them on the scales and see what sort of results you get? You would want to put roughly the same amount that you weight. You could also ask the folks at the gym if the scale has ever been calibrated.

I agree, use the same one all the time. Even if it skews heavy (God forbid) or light, you can track weight loss just the same. My last dr. visit I about fainted when they weighed me, then they told me the scale weighed about 6lb heavy.

Also, if it's your home scale, make sure it's on a firm surface and try not to move it around any more than you have to.

thanks

hey folks thanks for your input

i think i will go with the gym scales. the ones i bought in the house are going from one thing to the other plus when i bought them there are esp for a larger weight . so that i could weight up to the 33 stone mark but maybe this is not so accurate now.

will try placing a weight on the ones at gym and see what level i get

thanks
