Different looking six packs??

Ive been noticing in the movies and in the gym and wherever else that some guys' stomach muscles stick out farther than others..like theres this guy at the gym I go to....I swear the dudes gotta be on steroids....huge pecks, big arms,..and a perfect six pack....but it sticks out as far if not farther than his chest does....Ive seen other guys whos gut is way farther in with the six pack....what does this all mean?....different body types or workout routines er something?

P.S...Ive been workin my gut out for a while and I am able to tighten it up, have all my friends punch me as hard as they can( Trust me I know how stupid that sounds) and laugh at them for it lol, yet they still dont show hardly at all...and my chest sticks out farther than my stomach if that makes any difference....is there anything that I can do to make them show more??....besides dieting???...or do I just need to make them stronger?
 
Your abs are just like any other muscle. If you train them with very high weight and low reps they're grow out just like pec's.

Typically a guy with a six pack; that looks lean and mean has that look because of low body fat and nicely developed abs.

Besides dieting, eh? If you've got the muscles under there, a clean diet is the only way for them to show.

Also, don't forget, when you work your abs you're making them bigger. If you overwork them they will grow. There are a few bodybuilders whose abs stick out further than their chest. Often, they end up with a slant (sticks out more at the top, kind of tucks in at the bottom). My last trainer warned me only to work abs once a week (or twice if I didn't do a good enough job the first time), because until you lose bodyfat, you're only going to make them grow.
 
Of course, but there's strong, and then there's big. They're not mutually exclusive, but they're not the same thing, either :)
 
mine have grown and have gotton that slant and yes they are considerably stronger than when i started but i think u can only tell if it has a sllant if u r pushing your abs out as much as you can. i only did my abs once a week and they grew. muscles get big by growing dont they? whats the difference?
 
whatd u do to train ur abs metallica? im tryin to makem stick out, so far idk if im having any luck cuz i still have some fat to lose. but what exercises do u do?
 
i use a weighted ab crunch machine (not the gripless one) i do a 10X3 rep system and i do an amount were i can only do up to 8 to 11 reps per set. when i started going to the gym in Oct. 04 i could do 90 lbs on it, next time i go i'm gonna have to step up to 175 lbs. im not skinny enough to where you can see all the detail but i can at least see the top part of them. cant wait till i cut them.
