Difference between running and treadmill

it`s better (for me) run a mile, treadmill are the easy way... i can do 10 mins at fast speed with a very "normal" breathing and running in the street i do it a moderated and my breathing is not normal... the street remeber have irregularities some inclinations, and other natural or human factors that make running a different thing... it is like spinning and cycling.... cycling you can feel the wind, not the smell of the partner or listen to a guy.. when you accomplish your goal, (running or cycling) you would feel better than stationary system "does"...

Also, the ground is sliding out from under you on a treadmill. When actually running, you have to propel yourself forward.

Personally, I find a mile on the track much easier, if not physically, at least psychologically. I have always been able to run a mile faster on the track.

Aside from what was already mentioned, probably the biggest difference is the effect of wind resistance...like running at 5m/sec on a treadmill is equivalent to running in a 5m/sec following wind in the open air.

lol, maybe if you're a cheetah...

Similar to what Cynic said, the track is moving, and you can technically "do" a mile just standing on the edge and letting the tread go by.

With a treadmill if you want to do one speed, then its good. If you want to practice sprinting or change between running slow, walking, and running fast every 30 seconds, then a track would be best. I like the track better because the treadmill gets boring being in one spot. I can finish the same time as I can on a treadmill. It's all about how much shape your cardio system is in.

I don't have much more to add, just wanted to agree that it's much easier to run on a treadmill. I can run a mile and a half and feel like I just started 10 seconds ago. But on the street I can run a mile and a half and be dead. I guess like cynic said it takes more to actually propell yourself foreward while outdoors. For the winter I have to run on a treadmill. I don't mind it at all, but I usually go a little farther when I'm on a treadmill as I feel I do less work on a treadmill than on the streets.
