diet problems

i have a problem that constintly destroys my diet attempts. I cant resist the foods i eat literally everyday. for instance, ive eaten some form of potato chip everyday for a very long time, the same goes for many other kinds of snack foods, and everytime i try my diet again it fails the same way, while im supposed to eat some healthy choice meal or slim fast shake, i think about my favorite foods and develop a serious craving for those foods...it doesnt matter whether im hungry or full, i just want to eat them...is there any way i can stop this? also,
if i somehow manage to keep a diet for about a week, will those cravings die down at all?

I think you need to change the way you look at food. If you say you are on a diet you automatically want to eat everything your not allowed to. Change to a healthy eating plan and your outlook changes.
If you are on ready made healthy choice meals and slim fast you are bound to be hungry and subsequently crave nice food.
Others on here will give you more idea of what you should be eating. You need to be more positive about the whole weight loss thing in general...... change your eating habbits and find different nice things to eat to stop the cravings. There are some lovely yogurts available these days. I would also say (and this is just my opinion, Im no expert) that if you do succumb and have a packet of crisps, dont just say you have failed....... count the calories and get back to the healthy eating....... We cant all be angels all the time, be true to yourself and record everything you eat.

Nice post, Katey.

It makes a very important point... change the way you view dieting and food. As soon as you go on a diet... you assume that someday you can come OFF that diet. Well what happens when you come off that diet?

What are the first three letters in diet? That's a favorite one of mine ;)

So why not look into eating healthy for life? That does not mean eating boring foods and veggies all day either. Eat clean for 6 days out of the week. Give yourself a free day on Sundays (or whatever day you want). What are your goals? How many calories should you be eating?

Provide us with a bit more info and we can help you out a bit more. Generally you want to eat 5-6 small meals each day. The first meal is eaten within an hour after waking and each meal thereafter is every 2-3 hours apart. Each meal should contain one protein and one carb. This will stop the hunger feeling or starvation feeling.

This will also even out your blood sugar levels. This is a sustainable way to eat for the rest of your life :)

well i am 15, and weigh 170...i dont do any of the shopping so i cant have the kinds of foods i would want. my family isnt very healthy so we have an abundance of unhealthy foods everywhere in the house. my goal weight i would say is probably 150, and ive tried a couple online calculators that say i should eat 2600 calories per day to maintain my current weight.

At 15 and 170 pounds, you have to start taking care of yourself.........because apparently nobody at home is going to. You can't let their bad habits ruin your life.

You are craving the junk because you aren't fueling yourself correctly. When you do, the cravings will vanish. That's the way it worked for me.

Talk with your parents about your concern. Let them know that you would like to start eating healthier foods. Hopefully they will listen.

If not, talk with your gym teacher, health teacher, school nurse, guidance counselor...etc. Can you get a job? That's what I did when I was younger. I got a job and went to school and played sports and worked out. It made it easier to eat better when I could buy my own healthy stuff.

I was in the same boat as you. When I went to do my shopping on Saturday for the week, I would by 7 bags of various chips and Doritos because I ate a bag a night every day of the week. I got tired of running around with my son having to take breaks every 10 minutes because at 252 pounds I was out of breath. I decided to make a change in my lifestyle, not go on a diet. This was last August. I still get the craving for my chips, after eating a bag of night for years, it is hard not to. To suppliment this craving I sometimes have a handfull of baked whole grain flavored crackers or soy chips that are ranch or BBQ flavor. A handfull of these when my craving arrives eliminates it, plus the ones I get are organic, so they are still healthy for you. I just have a recommended serving or 2 and not the whole bag. If you follow the advice of all these knowledegable people on this board and eat the right foods and the 5-6 meals a day, you will find that you are usually full half the time or have no cravings to begin with. Good luck with your goals.
