Did it before, can I do it again?

back when I was 17, I lost about 70 lbs during the course of a single summer. I was active in karate classes, I rode my bike everywhere (roughly 30 miles a day), I became involved in track in high school and I drank a lot of water.

That was awesome!

Anyway, 20 years later, I'm back in the boat I fell out of. I just want to know if I picked back up those things I did as a teenager, could I lose that kind of weight again? I mean, I don't have any joint problems - I don't feel the effects of my age. I'm giving that a few more years.

There shouldn't be any reason I couldn't do it again, right?

My wife tells me that she doesn't think it'll come off as before. My energy levels at 36 are far from what they were when I was 17. Frankly, I don't care if it comes off in 6 or 7 months but maybe a year would be good.

Having a toddler and wanting to ride a bike 30+ miles a day are quite mutually exclusive unless I get her one of those caboose carts for the bike. Even then, I doubt very much she'll be up for a ride in such confinement.

Maybe when my wife gets home in the evening, I can go out and enjoy a nice ride or use what money I do have to get a membership to the gym and actually go this time.

You don't need that level of exercise to lose weight. You really need to start keeping what you eat in check. It doesn't matter how much you exercise, if you eat too many calories you will gain weight. If you do go crazy and work it off, you will gain it back unless you keep up that level of exercise. Also, as the pounds drop you will need to up the level of exercise you are doing to keep the loss going.

Diet is 80% of losing weight. If you start to change the way you eat (that really means paying attention to what you eat. counting every calorie and such) you will lose weight. Its very simple. If you start to ride your bike 3x a week for an hour and do some strength training with proper calorie control and you'll be able to lose the weight no problem (the only problem is keeping with it, but once it becomes routine it becomes easier.)
