Dextrose

Hello,

I bought some Pure dextrose sugar and the ingredients contain only cane sugar. So I heard that with the after workout shake im supposed to have the dextrose.
I have 1 scoop of protein shake(21g protein), how much dextrose should i put in?

I am 162 lbs, 5ft 10. 17 yrs old.

but remember that dextrose weighs more than the same volume of protein powder.

since you don't sound that 'fanatical' about exact diet, just go with 1 scoop protein, and 1-1.5 scoops of dextrose.
it'll be a very sweet tasting shake.

Thanks! i tried it with 1 scoop and it was good.

But i still dont know why im taking the dextrose? What does it do for me after my workout?
Is it essential in a bulk diet?

Dextrose is a quick acting carb, which will cause an immediate release of insulin. Normally, we stay away from carbs that will cause such a change in blood sugar, but after a workout, it is exactly what you want. The carb serves as a vehicle for the protein to get to your muscles that are in desperate need of glycogen restoration and protein to use for rebuilding. When insulin is released, it also suppresses cortisol, the hormone that can be attributed to muscle breakdown. Drink up buddy!
 
what if you use 2 scoops of whey in the PWO shake .. then it would be 3-4 scoops of dextrose ??

im still considering adding it .. but not so sure if i need it ..
 
No no, you missed what malkore said above. Dextrose is more dense than whey. One scoop of dextrose weighs about twice as much as one scoop of whey. So even if you put one scoop of each in your shake, one a per gram basis, you have about twice as much dextrose as whey, which is exactly what you want. Do it!
