Depro shot and weight gain/loss

Does anyone have experience with the depo shot? I've been on it for about 1.5 years now. I have put on about 15 lbs since I've started it but I know I ate like crap and didn't exercise this past year.

Could it hinder my weightloss?

I had a friend sho got the depo shot and she put on tons of weight with it, now I am not sure if it hinders weight loss or not. I put on some on the pill but I was eating crap too, so I am not sure. Eventually I for myself have decided to be off hormonal birth control, but I have a partner who seconds that and is happy to use condoms. I also have familial breast cancer in my family (my mom lost a breast to it) and do not need to put myself at risk even more (even if the risk is tiny).
