Dee's Weight Loss Diary

Hello:

I am a newbie here -- just posted my "introduction" thread. For now, I just want to use this space to journal my daily food intake and excercise. Going to go a couple of weeks of being very "general" about food intake to acclimate myself to the reduced calories and lower fat, and then after that, am going to be very strict about counting calories and fat, etc.

Today's food:

Breakfast - bowl of raisin bran cereal with 2 tablespoons of extra raisins and 1% milk

Lunch - turkey and mashed potates with gravy (Boston Market kids meal) with cup of lemonade

Snack at 3:00 pm - glass of water and 1 small peppermint patty (was desperate for chocolate!)

Dinner - Lean Cuisine Rigatoni with Meatballs, glass of 1% milk with 1 tablespoon of chocolate syrup; ounce of Boars Head Cajun Turkey

Snack - banana and glass of water

Random thoughts: I need to drink a lot more water and also add a multi and an iron pill.

Had the best of inentions of hitting gym tonight, but didn't make it. (Pure laziness on my part!)

Weight: 245 lbs.

Hi Dee,

I just replied to your newcomers post... but I thought I'd stop by and say hi here.

Your food today looks good. Take your time easing into it and gettin gyour body used to it. Depriving yourself will only lead to cheating or quitting all together. Its truly about moderation.

Welcome to WLF

Hey there Dee,

I see Jenna aka Boam46 already got to you and she's completely right. Being too strict on yourself in the beginning will be difficult to maintain throughout life. So take your time and just start with small changes. (Ie: eating a kids meal at Boston Market as opposed to an adult meal. :D) Your meal plan looks pretty good, except it may be a bit too low in calories. Have you calculated what your daily calories should be? If not, take a look at the calculators section at the site and plug in your info: height, sex, weight, etc. Your calories at the moment are around 1400. Give or take, depending on the serving sizes. Don't drop too low or your body will hit starvation mode and you'll end up slowing down your metabolism. :) Drop by other journals and try taking tips from them if possible. I've been doing and it's really helped me. Wishing you all the best....

Hi:

Thanks for stopping by and for the feedback!

Definitely not starving -- just being very cognizent (if thats the right word!) of not just what, but WHY I am eating. For example, I used to just nibble all day. So instead, I am just eating when hungry. I was craving chocolate, so I had ONE pice of candy (peppermint patty) and put the bag away, and you know what, after one the craving was satisfied and I wasn't hungy anymore! For the sake of health, I probably should have had an apple or some fruit, but I didn't want that -- I wanted chocolate so I allowed myself to have it. Eventualy I'll be adding in more fruits and stuff, but for now, just making little adjustments and seeing how that goes.

Now if only I can figure out how to add a ticker to my signature, then life would be good......

Hi Dee,

Too get a ticker in your signature go to tickerfactory.com or 3fatchicks or one of the many other ticker sites. After you make the ticker (they have pretty good instructions there) copy the BBC code (only that one will work). Then in the upper left hand of the WLF page there is a User CP button... its your control panel ... click on that then click on edit signature and paste the bbc code in and then you'll have a ticker in your signature:)

I hope that was clear enough. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

Thank you! This will be my project for the weekend - when I have some time!

Well, here's the food intake for today.
I am crazy about Boar's Head Cajun turkey - anyone every try it? It's sooooo amazing. BUT....realizing I can't keep it in the house because instead of making a sandwich or adding it to a salad, I just snack on it while waiting for dinner to cook, etc. Want to remove all unnecessary "noshing", so guess I just won't be buying it any longer. For now, anyway.

Breakfast - raisin bran with 1% milk and handful of extra raisins

Snack - (11:00) - banana

Lunch - Marie Callenders frozen meal of turkey and mashed potatoes and vegetables, bottle of water

Snack - (3:00) - 2 peppermint patties; 4 mini pretzels; half cup of water

Dinner - 3 ounces of Boars Head Cajun Turkey (it's soooo good!); Lean Cuisine entree (chicken and pasta); cup of 1% milk with tablespoon of Hershey's chocolate syrup

Snack - (9:00) fat-free yogurt and bottle of water

Ridiculously crazy day at the office, and then more work to do at home. No gym today. Probably won't make it all this week, but that's ok....not beating myself up over it. Baby steps. For now, monitoring food intake and will add excercise next week.

Really need to stop and buy a good multi vitamin tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Hey Dee,

Gettign rid of noshing temptation is a really great idea.
I would also try and stay away from those frozen meals. They have tons of sodium in them and its not good for your body plus it causes water retention! Its certainly better than fast food... but overall, even the lean cuisines and the healthy choices just are not that healthy. For a once in awhile thing they're fine.

I don't have any suggestions for a multi...if you search for multi vitamins int he search forums area I'm sure there have been threads with advice on multi's before.

Thanks. I know that the frozen meals aren't all that healthy, but I am always in a hurry and just can't cook. For now, they "work" because if nothing else, they are teaching me portion control. And like I said, they are uber convenient. But I know they can't be a long term plan. Most nights, it is just me at dinner, and I just never see the point of cooking for one. Not that I am a great cook to begin with.

Hi Dee,

There are some cookbooks where they have easy healthy recipes for cooking for one or two. Just an idea for when you want to move away from the frozen meals:)

Thanks! I am soo darn lazy though. After a day in the office, last thing I want to do is cook. But I will definitely investigate them! I heard Rachel Ray has a quick and easy one for healthy meals in 30 minutes.

Yes Rachel Ray has some... there's a lot out there though. EatingWell and Cooking Light and others do too.

I know some people who cook for the whole week on sunday. Maybe somethign like that could work for you:)

I was thinking of doing that -- like making a turkey on the weekend and eating it all week or something. Thing is, I really can't handle portion control. Not yet, anyways. That's one good thing about the frozen meals.

today was a bad day -- cheated a bit. Not too bad, but not perfect either. Will post soon.

Where is the cheating you were talking about... the cupcake and peppermint patties:confused: You're just starting out girl... you did great! If anything you ate too few calories today... everything without the dinner at the mall adds up to to fewer than 1,000 calories.

You're off to a great start Dee... don't get down on yourself... tomorrow is a new day with a clean slate:hug2:

~Jenna

P.S. Where on Long Island are you from (if you don't mind saying)... I'm from the lovely (can you sense the sarcasm... because it was dripping with it:rotflmao: ) North Woodmere (went to hewlett high school)

Hi:

I live on the South Shore - Babylon. Love it!

No, I have a real sweet tooth and planned for the cupcakes (100 calorie packs). I was just annoyed that I was at the mall and had no willpower. But could have been worse. Only had a scoop of white rice and some chicken, so not so bad. I just know how I get -- I am an "all or nothing" person.

Quote from your newbie bio post:

Hi:Thanks for encouragement! Wish there was a magic pill! Gosh knows I've tried everything -- if it were out there, I'd have tried it! But I am excited to do it the "right way" this time, and accept the fact that it is a lifestyle change, not a "six week crash diet" change.
Is that your child with you in your avatar? Beautiful baby.

Thanks! Yep that's Lil' Davy or D-minor as my musical friends call him. He is a cutie! I'll post a better pic when I get around to "posting" my before picture.

His Mom calls him Mini-me (the "me" there referring to yours truly).

Hope all goes well!
