deadlifts using dumbells?

I have limited access to equipment and was looking to add deadlifts to my routine. I do not have access to a bar or any plate weights.

Is there a safe/proper way to do deadlifts with dumbells? Havent really seen any tips on this from searching the forum and some exercise sites. I've never done them before so I wont need huge amounts of weight at this point anyway. Are there other recommended exercises that can be done with dumbells that have similar benefits?

Well I found a couple to try, didnt see the, in exrx.net when I looked earlir for some reason.

Dumbbell
Straight-back Straight-leg Deadlift
Straight-leg Deadlift

DL's with DB's

Put your db's on some type of platform or step so you don't have to go too deep w/ them. Don't let them pull you forward. SLDL or RDL's are an option. Whatch your back.

Great Idea, thanks for the tip, there are some step class platforms I can use to put the db's on so I don't have to go all the way down and risk my back as much :)
