deadlift

I use a hook grip (used specially for olympic lifts), very effective grip which makes you able to hold way more than a normal grip since you use your thumb more, takes a bit getting used to though.

thumb on the inside :p

dunno if its the same as thumb lock without looking at it.

And if you try it, give it some time, start with it on light weights... i got a small tendonitis in my thumb before i got used to it, but it was worth it, id snatch the bar right out of my hands if it wasnt for this grip.

Seems to be the same thing, just a different name for it here. And I agree that you have a lot of use for it, also for chins etc.

yeah i know, i was born again when i got used to it. without it i had problems holding a 105kg dl. after a month - month and half i did 125kg with no grip problems. It was due to increese in grip strenght and without doubt the hook grip.

I use and alternate grip. I switch my hands between sets. I usually grip deadlifts and olympic lifts with only 4 fingers and no thumb, but I'm starting to experiment with the hook grip. I can deadlift okay with it, but I cannot get used to it with my clean&jerk.
