db press not enough weights

im a little short on weights and i have like 80 pounds in metal weights and 50 pounds in big plastic weights...i wanna do db presses with 45 pounds each db but theres not enough metal weights and the plastic ones are a lot wider than metal...so im wonderin if there will be any problem if one db has the weight spead out more than the other...

Yes--but only in terms of grip/wrist function.

You should mix and match so each bell has exactly the same plastic and metal weights.

For example:

Say you have 3 plates which are plastic at 10 lbs each and 4 metal 5 pounders, and 5 plastic 2 pounders.

Set up each bell with 2 plastic 2 pounders and 2 metal 5 pounders.

For anything you can use 1 dumbbell at a time for, just load up the one bell with the same thing -in the same positions- on each side.

The idea here is that you do not want all plastic on one end of a bell, or spread out differently on the bar or anything. Causing the weight to be in different locations on a bar causes the wrist to have to work harder in one direction than another, and this effects your finger strength as well. Grip is one of the easiest things to overwork, so you want your development of it solid from day one.

I've never tried what you are talking about doing, but with dumbells, I can't imagine having a real problem with it. Givin that one dumbell has wider plates and covers more area of the bar, the weight is spread out more, and the weight might put stress on your one wrist, because it's not as balanced as the other one. My advice is to try it, and see if it feels right. Just imagining it, I think it might feel kinda funny. But if it feels good, do it. If it doesn't, stop.
