day one

My friend and I started our first day at the gym today.

We did 5 minutes on the stairmaster which tired us out quickly. We prefer the treadmill and are quite out of shape.

Then we went through the circuit training machines and I did 3 sets with 10 reps on each of those.

And we concluded with 5 minutes more on the treadmill.

That sounds sooo simple compared to what everyone else writes.

Any thoughts?

lol yeah its simple but its a good start ... what are ur goals???
whats ur stats like age weight and stuff??

Oh I hate to tell you my weight. :p

I'm 28, 200lbs. I'd like to be 150 and pretty strong. I've got a lot of tummy fat. I plan on going at least five times a week. Oh and I'm 5'8" I think. Almost 5'9" if it makes a differance.

haha i know how u feel about posting ur weight!! haha um concertrate of your cardio side of things (tredmill ect.) and try to increase your time every time u go, try go up about 30 seconds a day!! and in no time you will be cardioing for 30 mins!!! sounds hard but u will get there!!
your weight training seems good just remember that it is very hard to loose weight and gain muscle at the same time, its far easier to concerntrate on cardio and just have a moderate weights program like u do now...then increasing the weights later on!!
what do you eat on a regular day???
to get rid of that tummy fat u need to do cardio and have a clean healthy diet, u may find that it is the last place it comes off!!! but u will get there :)
anything u dont feel confortable posting on here feel free to PM me and ill be more than happy to help,:)

thanks :)

I'm a vegetarian and eat fairly healthily. I know quite a bit about nutrition (it's a hobby) and love to juice. I guess my weakness is cheese and snacking. I sit in my office for about 12 hours a day which doesn't help. :/ I know I can easily walk 30 minutes a day at a good pace but the stair master kills me. Maybe I'll alternate. Do you know much about interval training?

No worriez let me know how u go k!!!

kool just make sure when ur sitting, eat fruit or somthing not fatty stuff... mm i have the same problem with cheese, is nutrition ur job or just hobby?? i just got my 2nd certificate in nutrition YAY ...
anyways yeah still work on your stairmaster maybe do stairmaster before weights then tredmill after??
ahmm interval training HIIT.. hard lol um awsome way to up your fitness and fast fat burner because your heart rate is sky high!!!
try it out if your willing it is hard at first you just need time to ajust
so yeah i know a fair bit .. anything inparticular u wanna know ??

That's neat that you are studying nutrition. My dad says I missed my calling by not studying it because I have shelves of books on it lol. I love my job though. So, just a hobby. :)

I don't know. I don't think I'm ready for interval training yet.

I'll ask you a nutrition question and you're going to think I'm weird. I have IBS so a lot of food just doesn't sit well with me. I like to have snacks throughout the day but I don't know of many healthy snacks. I mean something I can just have on my desk while I work. I can't eat nuts and seeds by themselves and raw veggies don't sit well at all. Most raw fruit doesn't either. That just depends on what it is. Avocados are awesome though. Any thoughts on some nice healthy snacks I can have during the day?

haha yeah i find it really interesting!! lol
when u feel u are ready to give HIIT a try let me know and i can help u out with it
haha no i dont think ur wierd y would i?
for snacks i would sugest try dryed fruit or light crackers with advocado or light spread or celery... it depends really on what u can handle with the IBS, its hard to tell because everyone is different
were in canada u from
??

I'm in Alberta. A very small town that no one has ever heard of it. Closest big city is edmonton.

Everyone is different. I'm different every day too. I think maybe I should just bring juice with me. That sits well most days. especially if I have apples in it.

kool ive always dreamed of coming to canada!!!
the people are so nice and every canadian i have ever met has been so nice also i luv the accent!!! haha

Yeah try out new things and see how u go
well im off now have a good day and feel free to message me wen eva!!!
happy to help

hey

its great that your starting up!
just fyi, juice can be part of a healthy nutrition plan, but keep in it moderation because it is a simple carb and can contain a lot of sugar. \
for snacks, i like whole wheat crackers with cheese(controlled amounts of it! unfortunately hehe), a little container of natural yogurt, a protein shake, and if you can manage it, salmon/tuna on whole wheat crackers is a good way to get some yummy and nutritional protein.

also depending on how many calories you want your snack to be, a little sandwhich (one slice of bread folded, a lean cold cut, lettuce) can also serve as a snack.

let us know how it goes. good luck!

Thanks. :) I'm a vegetarian thought and because of my IBS I'm quite limited in what I can eat.

Juice is something that sits well with me and makes me feel better (awake...) almost immediately. I know that it has quite a lot of sugars but when you look at the health benefits (903% of vit A! and 94 calories a cup) I really don't mind. :D

Hi Saje

I agree with Megan, it is hard to lose weight and build muscle at the same time. If i may make a suggestion, join a martial art. Like Jiu-Jitsu(its like wrestling) or kick boxing. Not only will you meet new people but you will learn a useful art and i garantee if you get into it enough you will want to eat healthy and getting stronger and losing weight will come garanteed. Age weight hight gender sex all that does not mater you can do any martial art even if you havent ever played a sport in your life. Going to the gym is good, but using everything you got in a sport is better, it worked for me. Perhaps it might for you.

Oh I would love to do that but my schedule is not flexible enough to work around classes. Plus the town is so small that they don't hold classes frequently enough. :( I go to a kickboxing class whenever I can and love it. The trainer is a nut. She's so funny. But I just can't make it regularly. At least with the gym I can go whenever. It's open all day. :/ I've wanted to take Brazilian Ju Jitsu for a long time. They definitely don't have those classes here.

DAY TWO

20 minutes on treadmill at target heart rate

30 minutes circuit training

5 mins on treadmill again

oh i could still only do 5 minutes on the stairs. i hate those :p I could walk forever though lol. Ok, not forever, but a long time
