Hello, everyone!
I am a fresh-faced rookie to this site. I'm looking forward to keeping up with others here who are on a path to better living.

So, I made a decision tonight. I'm going to lose weight. I'm not making a huge ceremony over it, but I'm doing it.

See, I've learned what I consider a valuable lesson over the past months. I wondered why I never felt motivation, real motivation. I've wanted to slender up and keep it off for a long time, but I was honest with myself today. I've been waiting for motivation to find me.

I've stepped up and realized that drive comes and goes. If you want it, you have to look beyond your current emotions, and begin looking at the drab of waning passion as an obstacle.

So, I'm doing this. And I've made a plan.
I've lost weight before, in my teenage years, but slowly let it creep up again. So, I know how to do it. It's time for that.

I won't be using a scale, for the most part. I'm not going on a special diet. Really and truly, those things aren't necessary.
Simply, I'm comparing my caloric intake to that of my everyday activity level. I'll be taking in about 1,500 calories daily. I work a physical job, so the science adds up.

Plan tomorrow? Quit soda. Cold turkey. I don't care. I'm doing it. If I slip up, oh well. I'll kick myself and keep going.

I'm judging my weight loss by my belt size primarily. (I'll be checking in with the scale every now and again) I'm on loop 2 of a 38 waist right now. As my loops drop, so will my waist.

So, I'm ready and I'm willing, and I'm not letting mundanity get the best of me.

I'll be posting my first pic today . Day one of the journey. I plan on posting updates regularly. With that said, I'll be following as many of you folks as possible. You can do it, everyone! We can beat it with a little mental pushing and some elbow grease.

Have a good one!

Welcome! Quitting soda is a great place to start. I'm sure there will be plenty of support and advice on here if you have any questions. The photos are also a good idea, you'll be surprised in a few weeks when you look back at this one! Good luck buddy

Thanks, friend. That's the idea; see some progress a little at a a time. I'm a technical, see-it-to-believe-it kind of guy, so those progress shots really help me.
Have a good one bud

So, as an update, I've only been doing this for a couple days, but I'm feeling tempted tonight to let it go already.

This is where the new view I've adopted comes into play; that emotions come and go. One day you'll feel stoked and excited to get yourself in a better place in life, and the next you'll feel just blegh about it all.

That's how I feel right now, but I'm making the intentional choice to keep trucking. I believe that if I say I'm gonna do something, I should do it, and lead by example.

It's not always easy, but it's how it should be. I'm thinking once weekly I'll post a pic, that way I have to force myself to show my productivity. I want to see that damn belly shrink!! Everyone have a good week!

You CAN do this and judging by your plan you will. Welcome to the diaries, by the way :) Realizing there's a difference between need and want and acting accordingly is often the key to succes.

Keep on going! I'm the same, I normally give up after a week, sometimes I don't even last that long, but it's only made me unhappy over the years... whenever I give up I feel like I've failed myself. I've noticed that staying busy really helps me, if I'm having a craving I try to do something like clearing out a drawer or giving the bathroom a clean. Also, not sure if this is just me, but I read a lot and I've found a collection of books that has a really strong character who is physically fit and in control. Reading this book helps me and keeps me focused.

Sounds like you have a solid plan in mind - that's great! I find that "giving in" even once can set me off on a downward spiral, so it's much easier to just stay on track. I have days where I eat treats and things, but those days are planned out. That also makes a difference for me. So if you find you are struggling, or craving, you could try that. Even planning having a soda once a week or something. As long as I stay in control and it remains my choice, I seem to do better. Good luck to ya! :)

Fantastic advice everyone!
I know that anything worth pursuing is going to have a little pain involved. Although I still feel pretty unmotivated, I will, and I mean it, stick to my plans.

Jenniquest, I believe that you are very on point in that you must stay in control. I know, for me personally, It's super easy to feel like many things in life are out of my control.

We have to constantly remind ourselves that this is a huge lie.

If we want something, we have the power to get it. As mentioned before, if it's worth it, it's gonna hurt.

Everyone, don't give up! And thank you so much for the kind, encouraging words!

Weekly progress pics are fantastic motivators. I have a series of them from 10 years ago (front and side) that covered a 3-4 month period and it was great motivation to keep going after making it through the first couple weeks.

Looks like work will cover activity and you're well on your way to keeping the motivation up. Any plans for what you plan to eat yet?

yep, giving up is easy. keeping on going is much harder... sometimes. you need to find your motivation, maybe even make it a passion. find whatever works for you to keep you going

Welcome to the forum! The hardest part is definitely sticking to it when the initial motivation you had is gone. I've found that if I can set some habits before that happens, things go pretty well. If I'm already in the habit, then even if my motivation flags I'm likely to keep doing it.

Hey there!
No particular plans yet. I've been eating a small sub (about 500-600 calories with all the fixings) for lunch and a bunch of different things for dinner. I try to keep it around 800 calories. I'll have a snack or two in the day every now and then, maybe bringing it up to an additional 300. I think the plan this week is to cut the snacks out. I can't eat breakfast, as I have IBS (damn crap problems) so that's out of the picture. All in all, trying to keep it at a steady 1500-1600 calorie daily intake. I eat a bunch of healthy eggies too so I'm getting at least essential nutrition. Thanks so much!

Hi Cory! Sounds like a great idea. Form the habit so it's basically second nature? Great advice. Thanks

Thanks Stan. It's human nature to become complacent. Easiest thing in the world. I'm working on finding something particular. Honestly, what's keeping me going is just to prove myself wrong. Another big thing is that I'm tired of waiting for my circumstances to change first. That's a juvenile way of thinking that for some reason I have a hard time breaking out of, but I'm confronting it. Thanks bud
