Day 1 of the rest of my life.

A not so short introduction.

Hi there my name is Glen and what i'm here to talk about and discuss is the lifestyle choice I've recently made in these past few weeks. These changes are for weight loss but also to just talk about have I've been feeling and where things are heading for me in life.

As of now I sit at a hefty 305lbs, 5.6 and I'm only 20 years old. My birthday is December and my short term goal is to loose at minimum of 10lbs every month and I would like to drop minimum 50lbs so I can feel better about myself for my 21st.

When I was around 15 I was a very healthy young male, I enjoyed skateboarding, snowboarding, bmx, football..basically everything a young guy should enjoy. I had a darker side, however. Depression I used to have very intense depression that eventually lead to me dropping out of high school when I was only 16. My mother did not really care she just wanted me to get a job and pay rent. So I did I got a job at a local fast food restaurant that provided me with 6$ of free food every day. Eating became a passion and for some reason an escape out of my own personal sadness and in a year I'm sure I gained atleast 80lbs..and kept gaining and gaining.

I considered the years from when I was basically 16-18 the worst years of my life. I shut out all my high school friends because my weight gain was so embarrassing I didn't even want to speak to them.

Now at 20 and back in contact for the last 2 years with my best friends and having my life going in the right direction I want to completely overhaul myself into something I'm proud of.

I'm starting school for my G.E.D and construction certifications in late September and do not want to be the biggest guy in my class, having the hardest time with on job site work.

So now that you know my story..Here is my plan and the resources I have to accomplish my goals.

I have a small home gym that has a treadmill, older bowflex and a 100lb punching bag. My diet and exercise starts august 1st but the last three days I have been doing.

2Miles per day on the treadmill - 1 mile in the afternoon and 1 mile in the evening. usually around 2.6 -2.8 MPH. Which generally takes me about 24 minutes per mile.

I like to spend around 20-30 minutes on the punching bag, Just right, left, right left to keep a good balance, along with petty kicks (I try!)

As for the bowflex I have been doing around 1-2 sets of 12 per day of resisted crunches in between the treadmill and the bag. Along with other Misc. resistance work outs.

I generally eat around 2300 calories per day while trying to loose weight.
I have cut soda out of my diet completely and used to consume up to 5-6 cans per day which I think alone cuts a major portion of calories from my diet.
I am trying very hard to eat only 2-3 meals per day with out unhealty snacking (my weakness)

If you're still reading I thank you very much and will try to update this log daily for any followers I happen to gain.

I consider this not just a diet or exercise but a complete life style change. I want to be someone else when i'm in public im ashamed of myself and am tired of it. I don't want to be this person any longer. This will be for the rest of my life.

Thanks for reading as I go on I will update everything from weight, clothing sizes, struggles and strengths and pictures and I am VERY OPEN to any ones opinion and will take it for what ever it is. I'm on this forum for support and to share my experiences with other people in a similar situation.

Thank's everyone.

_Glen

Day uno closing to an end.

Ate about 1600 calories today and jogged for about 25 minutes/1mile and did 30 minutes of weight work outs on the bowflex.

Cheers

Hey man similar situation with eating, I have worked in fast food and currently I work in a real shitty resturant, not fast food but still unhealthy atmosphere.

The thing is I never drank soda at work. always water, when I got home though I would pound back a 2L over a night of video gaming when I was stoned out of my mind.

I quit smoking weed almost entirely(always kept me up when i did) so i generally go to sleep earlier, no more soda. I've had 2-3 glasses in 5 weeks each time made me kind of sick. I had a deep fried chicken burger with cheese and fries the other night as a cheat night. Made me sick. not doing that again, I personally don't see cheat nights happening very often for me.

Anyways I've cut a lot of shit out of my life and I feel a lot better. I bet you do to already even after doing it for a few days. Snacks dont have to be a bad thing! many people recommend eating several times a day. Just be councious of what is going into your body, write everything down and the pounds will fall off!

Yeah I hear that, Taras. I've been drinking only water all day with the exception of 1 diet can of soda and it wasn't even that great.

I'm starting to really like water hah.

I am also slowing down on toking because I just get the munchies really bad and don't need 1am runs to taco bell. Lol.

So far things are going decent and yeah.

Thanks for stopping by!

only ate about 1300 calories today, power went out and I live near a highway so no treadmill but I spent a good bit of time on the punching bag and did a lot of weight work outs on the bowflex, along with random activities.

Feeling better everyday

Hi Glen! Great workouts, they will make a difference. Consider eating less food more often, so 5-6 times per day instead of 2-3. Make sure all meals have protein and fiber so that you get enough protein for your workout regimen. Best wishes.

I know it seems daunting to have to lose so much weight but plenty of people on this forum have done it and you can to.

Hi Glen :waving:

Welcome to the forum:) i loved reading your diary entry. I found it really emotional because i know what its like to be that overweight lonely kid. Im the same age as you and i can totally relate to a few things you've mentioned in your diary introduction! Especially the bit when you said you feel self concious being out in public and when you stopped hanging with your friends over your weight.

I hope school goes well in september dear and YOU CAN DO THIS. You are doing great so far!! Exercising and eating the right food.. Congrats kid! You are picking your life up bit by bit. Well done, I will be keeping an eye on you and your progress!!:)

P.S water is yummy!! haha

Hey guys and gals, Thanks for all of the awesome and positive support!.

Today I consumed about 1500 calories, 2 meals and thanks liveleantips for that tip, I'll start eating smaller meals over the day instead of larger big meals. I've been making sure to eat a lot of protein and fiber also.

so today 1500 calories and misc. Bowflex work outs for about 30 minutes, Punching bag for about 2 session near 15 minutes each and I also power walked 1 mile.

I've been doing random sets of 20 jumping jacks throughout the day too, Sounds silly when I type it but in between work outs they seem to keep my heart rate up.

I'd like to start increasing the time I power walk for, I went 1 mile today because I increased my speed to a very heavy power walk up from a more casual speed walk that i've been doing.

So here's my question, Do you think 2 miles of slower and more steady walking is better then 1 mile of fast paced power walk / jog. My goal is to be able to do both over time and increase my mileage per day but as of now it is hard for me to do both in the same session, due to pain in my ankles.

Generally I exercise for about an hour per day of misc. routines.

Sorry for the mash up of text, just ..you know..typing my thoughts.

Also IrishPrincess, I really appreciate the kinds word and will turn your words into my strong motivation. I thank you!

Just got back from a 4 mile hike in the washington wilderness, Was absolutely amazing.

This will be one of my top new routines, considering I live in the mountains myself.
