Hi!

I'm new to the website but I've already traveled down my weight loss road quite a bit. I'm writing this partly because I want to share something that has worked for me, and partly because I'm hoping for some good advice to keep me going.

Background

Growing up and in school I wasn't fat, but I was never in shape. Always a little chubby, more of a science/computer nerd than a sports fan. Coming to Uni I went from bad to worse and by the time I had taken my degree I weighed 88kg at 172cm thinking I was doomed to a life of obesity. Apart from random spurts of a few months with dieting and exercize (when I'd lose 4-5kg and then quickly gain them) I had given up.

Method

About 4 months ago work took me far from home to a small village in another country. No TV or pastimes at home, no friends to go out eating/drinking with, not even a kitchen - I only had a water boiler!

I started going out jogging just to retain my sanity (not sure it worked). After a while I noticed I could jog a bit further each time, but it wasn't really alot to start. Once winter hit I signed up with a local gym and started using the treadmill and eliptical. They have a TV hooked up in front the machines - I go there almost as much to watch TV as to run ;) I try to do some resistance training to avoid too much muscle loss as well. For the past two months I've been going 5 times a week.

What started out as necessity from lack of amenities in the kitchen developed into routine. A typical day will consist of a low carb shake for breakfast, another for lunch, a carrot before going to the gym, dinner is ramen noodles and a slice of Wasa bread with cream cheese, dessert an orange and a grapefruit. This should be about 800kcal/day. I have a few "cheat" meals each week as well, bringing the daily average to about 1100kcal/day.

Results

The results have been nothing short of amazing (for me). The first two months I lost about 12kg, and I was rather surprised the first time I got on a scale (I had lost about 8kg without really thinking about it). I've now lost about 20kg and I can run harder and further than ever before. My resting heart rate has dropped from about 60 to 42. Friends and family barely recognize me :)

Future

Intellectually I recognize the results, emotionally however I'm having trouble keeping up. Weight loss the past month has been almost non-existant and the fat on my stomach stubbornly refuses to go away. I'm feeling less motivated in both exercize and diet, procrastinating instead of going to the gym (example: writing this) and having more frequent "cheats".

After reading through some of the other comments and stories on this site I'm starting to think that maybe this partly has to do with Leptins and my diet being wrong. Or maybe it's that I'm not pushing myself hard enough at the gym - or maybe too hard. Basically I'm stuck, I don't know why, and I fear I might let go and just slip back!

So if anyone has any advice, please feel free to offer it to me. Also, if anyone has questions on what/how I've done, feel free to ask :)
