7:40 I usually start with cereals in the morning before going to school, just the basic ones no flavour...
10:15 between breakfast and lunch i eat a sandwhich
12:15 or 13:10 at lunch i go to some places around my school with my friends... not that much of healthy food though
16:30 i eat toasts between lunch and dinner
20:00 whatever my mother cooks
then i go to bed

i mean i know this is not the best meals and all but it's not that bad... is it?
hoping for help to know what i can improve that is not too hard.
thank you

Hi Daniel, welcome to the forum :) I´d say cereal (depending on the kind, some are loaded with sugar) for breakfast sounds fine but lunch with friends every day probably gives you about twice as many calories as you´d need for that meal. Sandwiches and toasts are meals for me, not snacks, but you´d have to do the math on that yourself (pretty sure you can find the calories you need for your age/height/weight/gender/activity level online, otherwise ask your doctor). Homecooked meals from mom definitely sound good but again: I don´t know how your mom cooks so it´s hard to assess.

Good luck with your journey, I´m looking forward to reading about your progress!

If you cut and paste the following search string into Google ? "Calorie Calculator - Daily Calorie Needs" you will get a few results that can help. You can learn a lot by counting the calories of what you eat. Something I may get back into myself, however with more focus on nutrition.

Unfortunately there is no easy way when dealing with processed foods, especially those designed for taste. I would recommend learning to use/cook/soak/blend wholegrain rolled oats with fresh fruit and a bit of honey. There are more complex combinations and methods with such whole foods. However in the interest of keeping it simple just learn to make outs in water with skim milk and used natural sweeteners like honey.

Start eating for health and less for taste ... eventually your buds will change so that fruit and vegetables become your friends. It's said that for a healthy body, most of what we eat should be fruit and veg.

The hard part is changing ones taste. Not an easy thing to do with food that is designed more for pleasure than it is for health. Once you come to understand this process with process foods; then it becomes a little easier to make the break. Make the slow changes so that you will not give up. ...Or go full steam into it and discover just how much fun it can really be when eating for health. Know what you really want and ask yourself if your really willing to do what it takes.

How much and what type of foods are you eating from day to day? If you can give a list of the foods you typically eat, then perhaps it may be better to give suggestions with regard to a gradual change.

SUGAR is a great place to start and anything that's made with it. But will have a lot to do with just how much you want to lose weight Vs sticking with taste.

I'm big on self motivating and being real with what one really wants.

If your unable to choose and prepare for yourself, I think your issue will come down to what you mum cooks.

Ask your mum to buy some oats, and more fruits. Tell her about your intention to loose some weight and about the foods you would like begin eating. Just don't expect everyone to be supportive when making healthy changes. Or if you mum already eats healthy, then she might be delightful surprised ... OR maybe mum will be interested in making healthier choices as well.

Hard to say without knowing the circumstances.

Just change what you are able to do. Giving up sugar is the place to start. ;)

Thank you a lot for your help! You know i usually just eat cereals at breakfast because it has to be something fast to catch the bus. Then, by 10:15 I eat a sandwich with ham and cheese. Lunch i think is the worst part of my day in terms of healthy food. I usually ate pizza or fast food and those kind of things. That is the first thing i plan to improve, the lunch. I don't think there is a lot of sugar in my meals through the day...The mum thing... i don't really want to tell her because she took me to a psychologist so that he could understand me and influenciate me to start loosing some weight. But it didn't work... It was from the talks I had with my best friend and the coach at my american football practice that i really thought maybe this was the time, the moment, to do it. And so today was my first day... Ate a stupid salad with pasta at lunch... It tasted like crap. But hey, I guess if that is what it takes I'll continue to do it. Once again thank you for your advices.

Welcome to the forum Daniel...wishing you the very best on your weight loss journey.

I can understand how some of the healthier food choices may not be as tasty and fulfilling at first, but BELIEVE ME...if you really chose on taking the commitment you will see an improvement in your health, weight will shed (since you are still young and have fast metabolism still) and you will actually start enjoying eating such meals.

About your mom....I think once she notices you starting to lose some weight, she will eventually get it that you are eating healthier items...so even if you don't want to tell her at first, you will probably have to decrease the amount of food you are eating and that will be an indicator that you are concerned and committed to your health.

About cereal, pizza, or any other items you might crave...I personally am against of being radical and cutting all out at once. Unless there is a immediate health concern, I would start with small goals. So, for example, perhaps choosing a healthy lunch 3x a week and giving yourself a couple of days to eat a slice of pizza or something else (PLEASE KEEP IN MIND MODERATION...if you usually go for 2-3 slices of pizza, decrease to 1 and decrease soda if that's a problem as well - sodas are PURE SUGAR) - if you are going for a burger, cut out fries...just eating smaller portions of your beloved items can make a positive impact.

Also, do exercise...that's very important...keep moving! Best of luck to you!!! = )

Hi Daniel. I agree with CaliGirl & she has made some very helpful suggestions. Make small healthier changes & increase them. Reduce your portions, cut down your sodas. Try to think of this as a long-term investment in your health. It takes some time to change habits. Try not to feel that you are missing out. Your tastes will change, but it is hard when your diet comprises a lot of fat & salt in processed food. You can do this, but take it slowly & try to think of it as a positive change, not a negative one. All the best, Cate

Welcome and good luck on your weight loss journey! Maybe try half a sandwich between breakfast and lunch? Just a thought.
