cutting qestion

Im attempting to lose around 20 pounds of fat so the muscle ive gained in the last 4 months of lifiting weights is better displayed. its cold as hell in toronto, and thus running is not an option. I have a trainer for my bike which I use 5 days a week. I ride the trainer on lifting days also if I find the time to space the two far enough apart, otherwise I ride on the 4 non-weight days plus one weight day. My question is this:

I am terrified of losing what little gains ive made in the muscle dept. I eat well most often (90-95 percent of the time). Im not starving myself so my calorie intake is adequate. But the problem is that I cant really seem to get a "SOLID" cardio workout from my bike. I mean Im for suuuuure sweating. And as I go up and down the gears at set intervals my legs burn like a mofo. but im not out of breath really, moreso slightly laboured. Is this sufficent for weight loss? ( I realize its a matter of heart rate percentage) Also, generally on three of the five days of cardio I try to do 40 mins in the morning and then another 40 mins at night. Is there any danger of losing muscle with this?
