cutting and lifting

I know that trying to burn fat and build muscle at the same time is like trying to walk and run at the same time.AT the present time i am cutting, but i am also retaining the muscle that i have. THE way it is working for me is; i am zig zaging my calories day to day, lifting 5 days a week high frequancy and low volume. I work each body part 2 and 3 times a week no more then 6 sets per body part 45 to 50 min and done! ALSO cardio right after lifting for 30 to 35 min, moderate to high intensity.LET me know what everyone thinks of this program, as i said it is working for me and i hope it would help someone else.==========I will give more details if someone would like.:eek:

nice, if I had the time and I was eating right that program would work great for me... and if I wasn't as lazy..

I wouldn't zig-zag the calories as much as I would rollercoaster the carb intake. moderate carbs on the days you lift, so you have energy.
low carbs on cardio days so you force your body to convert fat to energy.
(of course, I keep my weight training and cardio on different days completely, so this works for me).

Also, lift HEAVY, and for low reps. Like you said, you can't really add much mass on a cutting diet, so going for hypertrophy is kind of pointless.
But lifting heavy gives the body a reason to try to hold on to the muscle mass, and heavy, low reps and the right number of sets will not tear up the muscle much so you should have no problems recovering.

that's just how I like to do it. there are many good, safe ways to lean out.

THANK YOU! THAT is a very good way of zig zaging. AND yes i have done that before and it doe,s work well; but right now my only carbs are from veggies and fruit, except for 1 cheat meal a week.AND i also like the part of lifting heavy; makes a lot of sense, i will try that also.HOW many days a week do you cardio? I try not to do anything on my days off, i will cardio right after lifting or go back to the gym in the afternoon.----THANKS FOR THE RESPONCE.=======TRAIN HARD AND EXPECT RESULTS!

That is pretty much what I do as well but longer duration. As Malkore, I also incoroparate moderate weight and reps (ie 3 sets of 6-10 reps vs 3-5 sets of 10-15 reps, higher volume). If you want to push it even more, go in the morning and do more cardio.

I don't know if I lost any muscle but the past month, I drop from 180lbs and was at 169 lbs when I broke the diet this month and currently at 171.5 lbs. All my lifts are pretty much where I left it when I was at 180 lbs (possibly even stronger actually).

I lift in the morning and usually cardio directly after; all of my carbs should be deplited from lifting, and the fat burn should start as soon as i cardio. I do that 5 days a week; i need to burn a lot of fat. THE last reading i got was 17% bf; came down from 22%,if my readings are right,i take 3 or 4 readings in the morning.I use ACCU-MEASURE CALIPERS recommended by BODY FOR LIFE. I am curently 235lb down from 250lb in 5 months, from 42 inces to 39 inces,i think i am burning more fat and keeping the muscle,so it seems.I have been lifting for 10 yrs, but my diet was all wrong, till 6 months ago. FOR the last 5 weeks my carbs are from fruits and veggies; 10 SERVINGS A DAY i got this from TOM VENUTO writer and former trainer among other things.THIS is really working for me, i also eat fish 5 days a week along with chicken breast and a LEAN steak 1 time a week.I consume 6 to 7 meals a day. I am convinced that nutrition is 80% of any lifting program, i do not know what i was thinking for all this time.========I WILL TAKE ANY HELP YOU HAVE TO OFFER.====I WOULD LOVE TO COMPETE BY NEXT YEAR IN BB.
