The new CSIRO diet book is out. I saw them it discussed on the Today Show on tele this morning and give it the thumbs up. This one targets those with diabetes or who are pre-diabetic but anyone can use it.
I loved my first CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet book and still use it for nutritional info. It was a bestseller in Australia and I think a great many people have learned how to improve their diets on the basis of using this book.
If anyone is starting out dieting and doesn't have much of a clue about nutrition and how to cook healthy foods, I'd fully recommend this book. It gives you all the info you need to lose weight in a healthy sustainable manner.
The only thing i don't go along with (but that's a personal choice) is the use of low fat diary and other foods but i'm pretty alone in that.
This new book is better than the first because it has more recipes that don't include meat. These are based on Low GI carbohydrate meals.
By following through on the links, you can get a good taster of the book and meal plans by downloading the sample. Click the link at the BOTTOM of the page. The top one doesn't work.
The only downside for americans is that instead of calories they talk in kilojoules. 3.9kilojoules = 1 calorie
The daily diet in the sample plan is 1.666 calories. HOwever, it seems there are other high calorie meal plans also and anyway, you can adjust the meals to suit your own specific calorie needs as you wish.
Many people would probably be happy to see that the meal plans include desserts. From past experience, i know they are quite yummy.
In this book they try hard to make the food interesting, varied and tasty. You don't have to follow the plans strictly. They are a guide and you can learn a lot by following them. I know i did.
One more thing, if you have a go at this, you are no long stuck with counting calories forever. Their approach simplifies the whole business.
