Crockpot Turkey Chili

Sounds good..will defintely have to try it? Wonder what the calories are in it? While we're on the subject of turkey, has anybody had turkey burgers? They sound good.:)

I have, and yes they are - the cafeteria at work has them for lunch every day. It's a nice change from chicken salad and tuna salad. Give it a go.

The calories seem to come from the chickpeas, black beans and kidney beans in that order.

I think on the nutrition info, a serving is 441 grams, which would make it around a 1lb? A suggestion would be to take a portion you'd eat and put it on a scale to see how much you've got, then calculate the calories accordingly.

I tried a small bowl last night and thought it was pretty good. (I doubt I could eat more than two ladlefuls at one sitting). But waiting til today (well, lunchtime) to have it once everything's set a while.

Some other notes: I followed the recipe as it is on that link. I used a 5.5 quart rival crockpot set on high for about 6 hours. I think one of the reviewers states that cooking time is around 5-6 hours on HIGH and I'm inclined to agree with that - least for the pot I used. Another reviewer stated that the chili was soupy, which I think might be true if it didn't get that last hour of cooking in, but I don't know that for sure. Mine looked pretty solid when I was putting it into containers for freezing.

We make a similar recipe to this all the time but just on the stove ... sans crock pot :) It takes less than a hour its soo easy and sooo good! Just brown one package of lean ground turkey ... add a can of chili beans ... 1.5 package of hot chili seasoning (our is McCormicks whatever your store has Im sure its mostly the same) ... 2 cans diced tomatoes ... we add salt and pepper and garlic, etc ... cook it all together add water if its too thick or cook it with the top off for a bit if its too soupy ... serve with crackers mmmm mmm :)

Well I had it for lunch today - and I think it's a winner. It's filling without feeling stuffed, and the taste is subtler than one might expect. The only drawback is the sodium content, which I'll look into getting unsalted ingredients next time. But as it stands it's very good.

We had it for supper and it was good. You couldn't tell that you used turkey instead of hamburger. It came out looking like vegetable soup but oh so good. Will defintely recommend it.

Not sure what size, maybe middle size. It possibly could be a 4/5qt. I'm with you about re-heating it. It's still good as it was as the day I made it. It made enough for lunch and supper for 2 days. It made 10 1 cup servings.
