creatine

It's quite common, very popular, and one of the first things I recommend (after a good protein supplement) for people trying to build muscle. It doesn't work for everybody, and some people have stomach discomfort or dehydration after using it -- but like malkor said, if you're a "responder" (nice terminology by-the-way, malkore), i.e., it works for you, then it can REALLY help in boosting your muscular energy.

i've been using creatine off and on since 1995. i mainly just use it when trying to gain size. i find it more fun to cut without it because its more of a challenge. :)

there's two theorys about creatine. some say 'take it before so its there when you need it'

however lots of research shows that a daily intake of 3g for a typical 200lb male will increase baseline creatine levels to a 'performance level'...no matter when you take it.

Its more important to be consistent in your creatine intake than if you take it 90 mins pre workout, or with your PWO shake. Basically, just take it, and don't worry about big loading phases. 4 weeks of 3g doses a day will load the muscles as effectively as 5g 4x a day for a week...and it's a lot easier on the kidneys.

I think what he's saying is that it doesn't matter, because you're trying to increase your baseline levels of creatine in your muscles. As long as you take it regularly, your creatine levels will increase.

Exactly. I think the people who take it pre-workout and say 'I feel more energized' are probably experiencing a psychological effect of the creatine, rather than a physiological effect. But even if it is only in your head, if you can push out one more rep per set, you're still doing more work and thus increasing size/strength.

Will Taking Creatine Before a Workout Give Me More Energy?

No, not exactly. Once again for creatine to work your muscle cells must be saturated with it. This takes at least a week to do, so doing it once before a workout will not make a difference. Now if your cells are already saturated with creatine then it will still not make a difference if you take it before you workout. Your body must process it first and that takes time. The creatine your body will use in the upcoming workout will come from the creatine phosphate stores already in the cells, not from the creatine you just ingested.

i might be wrong but i think bryan haycock says to take it before. IMO, i respect both parties so whatever path chosen, good ppl got your back ;)
