Creatine

1) What does this stuff do exactly? (faster gains, bigger overall gains?)
2) So how is creatine different than steroids? (other than that it is not a banned substance)
3) I read that it's better to use supplements after you've been training for a few years so that you get the best out of your body naturally before using them. Is this theory correct?

Use the search button up along the top of the page, you're asking pretty basic stuff that has been covered hundreds of times on this site.

Here are some really really quick answers just to get you going (can't cover it all cause i've got to head to work soon):

1) Creatine will provide your muscles with more ATP, hence more oxygen and more blood - generally giving them more energy to be pushed harder during a workout. Also, creatine can lead to more, temporary, water retention in the muscles, making them appear bigger. Some will respond to those factors by increased and bigger gains, some may have naturally high creatine levels anyway and not respond much/at all, and some, for one of many other reasons i won't go into, just won't respond either.

2) Sorry, but i'm not even going to dignify that with an answer - work it out for yourself.

3) Supplements are just that - they are to supplement what you're not getting from your basic diet. If you can't get enough good protein from your diet, supplement it with a protein shake; if you don't have time to prepare all your meals, supplement your diet with a mrp; could even use it for creatine (just about) - if you're not getting enough creatine from your red meats, supplement it with some creatine monohydrate (creatine and water).
 
I'll provide a very basic answer to #2: creatine is a naturally occurring substance in the body, and intense workouts deplete it, and your diet likely cannot maintain perfect levels. Thus you supplement with creatine, just like you would any other vitamin/mineral you're not getting enough of through diet.
an Androgenic Anabolic Steroid is essentially a compound that converts to testosterone.

In other words you're comparing apples to elephants.
 
well there have been incidents where creatine abusing has resulted in kidney related failures.. no matter how safe it may seem, someone somewhere will find a way to abuse it and hurt themselves.

Actually, the research I've seen, creatine cannot cause kidney failure all on it's own.

If you already have poor kidney function, and injest large amounts of creatine, the extra converts to creatinine, which the kidneys then have to process out.

Yeah i get that feeling also. I was reading an article this week where a puma ad described bodybuilders and elite altheltes injecting creatine??? Giving the false assumption that creatine is like roids which couldn't be further from the truth. To sell sneakers or something.

You might of read it Chirs Sugart i believe wrote it.

This one is like clicking on the world's largest e-iron pit. There's no shortage of hardcore lifting moves here -- like doing back extensions and two-armed dumbbell rows at the same time -- or enthusiastic talk about supplements and steroids, for that matter. But an advantage of the Web is that you can skip over the parts you don't want without worrying about getting thrown up against the lockers.

I just had a few quetions about creatine. I am 14 years old and 130 pounds. I am not the smallest, but kids on my team are much bigger like 140-180 pounds and are benching from 150 to 230 pounds. I was thinking of using it. any things I should know that could be harmful or is it safe. I would like to bench 130lb. by the end of the year and i am can already do about 110lb.

Creatine is in beef. Buying it will just give your body more it will not hurt you. Some people do get upset stomachs, i don't.
 
Creatine isn't a miracle supplement at all. You do not need it to up your bench by 20 lbs. You need to train and eat right.

Bench with a spotter, aim for 6 reps, increase poundage, and every couple weeks train to failure, maybe only 5 reps with more weight.
 
i was supposed to start using it this month but forgot about it. will probably begin to use it again at the start of the year

All I know is that when I went and bought some Creatine they asked for my I.D. because you have to be 18 to buy it or something. I dunno, I thought it was kind of wierd. I just started using it this week, so I'm jsut ganna have to see how it goes.
 
Does anyone here have noted results from taking creatine specifically? Im just sticking with a good diet etc. for now.
