Hey thanks for stopping by my diary.
I have been a member here for awhile, but, this is the first time I felt like starting a diary.
Anywho.....here goes! Enjoy!
Currently, I am a 50 year old male, 5'8", 163lbs, 22% body fat.
Here is a brief history of where I have been on my "Weight Loss" journey.
Rewind to 2 years ago, when I began my healthy lifestyle transformation.
I was 183 lbs, 32% body fat.
I started with the only method I knew how to lose weight, I began working out at the gym.
I was obsessed, I went to the gym 7 days a week. Literally. I didn't miss a day for at least 1 year.
I did get in better shape...more muscle, a little bit of weight loss (very little FAT loss) and I gained more energy.
However, I was still "flabby" around my middle and my cholesterol was at 200 with high LDL (the bad stuff).
How could this be possible?
Then I read a book about nutrition...focused mainly on lowering cholesterol...and this was when my FAT LOSS really took place.
What I learned was the following...
--I don't really want to lose Total Body Weight, instead I want to lose Body Fat. That visceral fat around your belly. It is dangerous to let it hang around. So, I purchased a scale that measures Body Fat%, nothing expensive ($40 at Wal-mart) and now I can keep track of the most important indicator of my overall health, Body Fat %.
--80% of your Fat Loss will come from nutrition (what you eat, when you eat it and in what portions), only 10% will come from exercise.
--Food is your secret weapon for losing Body Fat and getting in the best shape of your life.
So, for the next year or so, I began doing this...
--eating mostly unprocessed foods, greens, beans, beets, mushrooms, whole grains and fruits.
--drinking more water
--eliminated almost all meats, dairy and anything white (pastas, breads, flour) from my diet.
--going to the gym and spending only 45 minutes doing a resistance and high-intensity cardio workout.
And what I saw was a dramatic reduction in my body fat %.
Fast forward to today, It's Sunday 6/3/2012.
I still want to reach my ideal weight (150 lbs) and get my body fat % to under 10. Yes, under 10% body fat.
So, I am going to post here weekly to let you know how I am doing and please feel free to comment, encourage, support or give me feedback of any kind. I will thank you in advance!!
Here are my goals for this week - 6/4/2012 thru 6/8/2012
--Drink 96 oz of water each day (sipping it slowly throughout my day). I stay away from sodas and juices, but, struggle to drink water. My beverage of choice is coffee.
--get to the gym M, W and Friday.
--get 7 hours of sleep each night
Wish me LUCK!!
