Cracking sound whilst squatting

Hey guys,

I have a client who is middle aged, pretty high risk of osteoarthritis and does experience knee pain frequently.

I know the importance of strengthening the surrounding muscles in order to prevent osteoarthritis, though my client has a cracking sound whenever squatting. The client does not experience pain or any sort.

I was wondering if the sounds of cracking/crunching is normal for the client, I have read that its quite normal for clients with that status to have those symptoms though I thought I'll get more opinions. Should clients with these symptoms pretty much ignore the sound provided that there is no pain?

Thanks!

Hello,
While doing any workout if any cracking comes from muscle or bone then it's not normal.
It could be serious after...

Are you qualified to train someone with these conditions? As if you are you would know the answer to your question, if you are not dont train this client!

While I agree with nerdy, you are smart enough to seek help.
I put up with creaks and cracks when training because I know what caused the damage, my stupidity in youth. This is not wise and one day I will suffer for this more than I do now, but this will happen for me either way and I love training so deal with it.
Get them to seek medical advice, most of them will give guidance and you can integrate this into routines.
Partial squats and squats with supports or straps may be good or may be worse, without knowing the person or exact medical detail no-one can tell.
