could this really be true?

I started bulking up on May 10th, I started at 145 pounds and I just weighed in at 156. I had my body fat checked with a fitness specialist that I have been seeing regularly to check body fat.

Anyway, the analysis said that I had gained roughly 2 pounds of fat and gained 9 pounds of muscle. Could this possibly be true? My diet was pretty much on, I did the pre-workout meals, post, and post post meals.. I thought my training plan was just O.K. three full body workouts a week...

Could it be true that I gained 11 pounds and only went from 9.9% body fat to 10.4% in a little over three months?????
 
Doesn't sound too implausible to me. what is it you're wondering about it that you don't think could be true?

are you new to lifting? or not

You didn't do too bad. But you also didn't do great. Just tweak the little problems you have in your nutrition and weight training program and you will be good. You added 2.5 pounds of muscle on average per month which is good and the fat can be lost in a week or 2 along with any extra water retention. Don't be so hard on your self, you did a great job!

That difference is well within the inherent variability in the sampling protocol, whether it be calipers, impedance, or tape measure as they all claim +/- 2% body fat estimation error. I don't know what the sampling variability for immersion testing is.

He did great 11 pounds in 3 months is a huge gain especially if 9 of it was lean muscle mass.

yeah. If that test was correct, I'd say it's pretty much awsome progress!

How did they test bf? Remember, that the most commonly used methods are very uncertain. I never read anything into my BF measurements unless it's done with that water tingy, which is one of the most accurate ways of measuring.

With calipers you can't read into it at all. Since if you have for example alot of fat under your muscles (can't remember what it's called, sub-something-fat) the calipers can't measure it. Those scales that measure your bf can't be trusted at all.

Everyone remember that it does not matter how accurate the bf test is. As long as it is taken the same way by the same person the results are valid.

(meaning that an increase in .5% BF, gain in 2 lbs fat and 9 lbs muscle)

It really does not matter if the "real" bf was 8% or 12% to begin with. The progress is all that matters.

+9lbs lean mass in 3 months!!! if they werent just noob gains, thats +36 LBS lean mass anually! thats superhuman!
 
thanks for all the comments. The body fat test was used by a pinching device on about ten different spots on the body, tricep, subcapilar, abdomen, thigh, back, etc.

I am surprised that you guys think it was accurate.. that's great news if it's true! I read in an article that in the most optimum of conditions the body can only put on .25 - .50 pounds of lean mass per week, so that's why I was skeptical of the analysis.

My weight ranges from 153 in the morning to 158 during the day. So I guess I can say safely that I gained eight pounds for sure, 2 being fat and 6 being muscle would probably be more reasonable right?

At the time I thought he gained too much fat but it doens't even matter because he can lose that off quickly.
