I had a cortisone injection for tennis elbow, which, like plantar fascitis, is inflammation of the tendons. It stops the pain almost immediately. Unfortunately, the tendon is still inflamed, so once the cortisone wore off the pain returns.
If your doctor is okay with this, then I would do it.
