Converting bodybuilding success to fitness success

ok, I've been bodybuilding for mass and looks for about 5 years and it's worked fine. I'm much bigger, but not massive and pretty happy with it all.

But I recently went on a surfing trip and as my girlfriend put it:

"You've got all these muscles but they don't actually work"

She's got a point. It would be nice to have some more athletic fitness so I can enjoy sport more.
This isn't to say I'm not fit ...I'd just like to try a different kind of workout for a change. After 3 days of surfing my muscles didn't ache at all but I did get out of breath too quickly for my liking. This is after cycling to work 4 miles a day, working out every other with 10mg Anavar daily for a month which I'm sure made a big difference. I'm pleased with the improvement and I want more. It seems that cardio fitness is lost much quicker than strength too.

As a start point I'm looking for an in depth book or website advicing detailed information on training for sport. Bearing in mind I come from a bodybuilding background I'm familar with weight training so I prefer anything involving wieghts that exercises muscle more for use rather than looks and mass.

I'm sure I don't know that first thing about cardio training for example, or:

- knowing what intensities and diet cause which reserves to be burnt; glycogen liver stores, blood glucose, fat, protein

- how to weight train for specific sports (a happy side effect of my bodybuilding is that is has helped greatly for surfing; it's one of those sports that uses the upper body)

- 'core stability'; a physio college told me that Pilates helped turn the English Rugby around, but I'm greatly interested in this

- flexibility: this is a big problem for me. I'm totally inflexible and it needs to change. But what stretches are most important? (btw the physio said a 30sec hold is a minimum)

Having said all this I HATE spending hours on cardio machines, that to me is boring and not intense enough of a challenge. I guess this could be a problem to be helped my doing more energetic sport.

In addition to all this I'm interested in the use of Anabolics for fitness rather than mass and looks, not nessecarily because I definately intend to use but because I want to know as much as I can and all possibilities. I'm not willing to take the risks the average bodybuilder does as Deca is my limit after considering Primo and Anavar acceptable for my risk boundaries.

Have you given any thought to martial arts? They are very good at developing useful strength, endurance, flexibility, etc. Or try some out of the ordinary sports like mountain climbing, rock climbing, hiking, cross country racing, orientiering, cross country skiing, etc. Some books I have read say that bodyweight exercises like handstands, handstand pushups, chins and pull ups, bear crawl, etc. tend to build more functional strenght than weight training. And all of these certainly don't require 'roids or other supplements with questionable side effects to enjoy.
