Constant struggle.

Constant struggle. Weight loss, weight gain, weightlifting!

Ok, where to start? Im 21 yrs old, 6'0. I have always had problems with my weight. As a kid I was overweight, in my mid teens I got interested in weightlifting and manage to get my weight down but in all the wrong ways. Weighlifting, NO cardio, NO diet, eating a minimal ammount of food and basically just tearing my body to shreds. In the summer of 2007 I weighed in at 257lbs (117kg) since then I have got my weight down to 196lbs (89kg). Honestly I dont know how I have lost the weight. I havent been to the gym in about 3 yrs, seldom go for walks and pretty much dont care what I eat. I have been smoking for a little over a year and I'm currently up to about 2 packs/day.
When I was a teenager I started really getting into fitness and would run and workout religiously but as I mentioned I wasn't eating right and got pretty small and was constantly sick, had trouble focusing in school and just wasn't going about it the right way. I found this website after days of endless searching and it seemed like the best one to join. Everyone seems friendly and willing to help one another with their various problems.
During the summer I havent done anything but smoke 'round the clock. Havent been eating and when I do its usually one small meal around 8-9 p.m.. My biggest problem is I KNOW everything I am doing wrong I just havent cared lately.
My main concern with starting back to the gym is if its too late to get my body inshape. I have pics that I would like comments on, I will try to post them but I read somewhere there is a 15 post minimum before you can upload.
When starting the gym I have a workout planned which I will post and criticism is more than welcome. I dont expect many answers now due to the fact that all Im really doing is letting people know Im on and would like "contructive criticism", for lack of a better term, in the near future.

Thats all for now, sorry it was so much to read.

21 is no where near 'too late' to get into shape, it's probably the best time! With the proper information and enough determination you'll be amazed at the progress you can make.

dude, i'm almost 32 and in the same boat as you, and I even know exactly what I should have been doing to fix my excess body fat!

YOU CAN DO IT! Gotta crawl before you can walk, walk before you can run.

Read some of the stories in the journals, they abound with, "I was 46 and 215# in 36" pants and 4 years and two cardiac procedures later, I am an Ironman in 32" pants ..." Well, that's my story, but there are lots like that.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I would really like opinions on the "shape" my body is in now. I have pics but haven't managed to upload them yet. I have concerns about stretch marks and other areas of my body and ofcourse loose skin. As soon as I am able to upload pics I will.

Thanks again!

Here are a few pictures of what shape Im in now. My main concern is if the skin will retract and I will be able to have definition around my abs despite the stretchmarks and if I have man boobs or if its just from being overweight.

Comments? Advice? Suggestions?

you haven't scared anyone, it's just that Fridays can be a bit more quite...weekend and all. :D

First, dude, you are already on the right track! You have lost some and now you can get some help to build muscle and lose some more. I don't think you need to be worried about your skin elasticity. If you lose, and you build you aren't even going to see anything. You are young and you are totally capable of turning your body into one mean machine!

Hell, I was pregnant with twins and went from 115 to 185! 90% was in my stomach! Guess what? When I'm 125, I don't even look like I have ever had kids, and I'm 43. So honestly, don't worry about that sort of thing, you are young, and that is an advantage :D

So what you may want to do now is go take a look at the nutritional stickies, and read all about diet. Eating a healthy diet is a big part of this. Once you have done your calculations, figured out what your BMR is, and got some semblance of a diet together, then you may want to head over to the weight training section of the forum and check out those stickies. Build yourself a routine and get going!

As NoLoveLost said, you can't scare people off, we all wanna help.

You have a decent base to start with, all you need is a lifting routine combined with some cardio with an appropriate diet and you'll lose that bodyfat whilst gaining a little muscle.

Ok people, I got a year membership at the local gym today. Been lookin around at some different workouts and have made a rough draft of my own. Here it is:

Day 1

Chest
Bench Press
Inclined Bench
Dumbbell Flies
Cable Cross

Biceps
Dumbbell Curl
Barbell Curl

Triceps
Rope Pulldown
Tricep Press
Dips

Day 2

Legs
Standing Calf Press
Smith Machine Squats
Leg press
Curls

Shoulders
Smiht Machine Behind Neck Press
Dumbbell Lateral Lift

Back
Seated Row(Machine)
Wide Bar Overhead Pull
Back Crunch(Machine)

Stomach
Crunches
Leglifts
Leg extensions

10-15 min of jogging or the row machine would be a good warm-up.

Im dont really know that much about cardio but 45-60 min of jogging 3-4 times a week would be a good start at losing that unwanted fat and maybe start to give me definition.

Will doing my stomach workouts everyday end up giving a negative result? I've always thought the abs are the one muscles you CAN work everyday.

I would like to know what yall think about my "plan" and any advice or suggestions are welcomed.
