Confusion...

OK! So I'm 6'0" and I weight 270 lbs. And although I have alot of muscle mass, I have alot of fat mass as well.
For breakfast I eat two eggs, with chopped onions in them. About 3 hours later I will have a small bowl of rice. For lunch I will have a chicken breast, about 3 or 4 hours later I will have a small salad. Then for dinner I will usually have a salad, with an egg, or something.
Exercise: I play DDR for 2 hours from 10AM-noon.

I then go to work from 2PM-midnight, I am a 'stocker' roughly.
I get home and from 1AM-3AM play Soccer with a friend. I go to sleep, and I awaken and repeat everything.

I've been doing this for about 4 months. 3 months ago, I would snack and drink some soda, but I stop'd that.
For 3 months my diet has been (in my opinion) excellent. I get plenty of exercise, I just can't figure it out, what am I doing wrong? I hate this diet, and it's showing no results.

I don't understand the "no Carb" diet, I would like to try it because it sounds good, and people say it works, but I don't know.

Any suggestions/tips, would be greatly appreciated! (I drink roughly 4 gallons of water a day. It's all I drink)

It sounds to me like your caloric intake is way to low for someone your size. You are also not getting enough protein in your diet. Eggs are good, but where are the meats....chicken, turkey, lean beef, etc? You should be eating whole, natural meals every 2-4 hours throughout the day to keep your metabolism rip roaring.

Each of these meals should consist of some lean proteins, complex carbs, good fats, fruits and/or veggies.

I am new around here and not sure if many people use the low carb approach to dieting around here or not, but I have found through my work that many jump on the "low carb bandwagon" before really trying a proper, balanced diet.

One basket...

I was watching a nutritionist the other day discuss how Americans (and people in general) often eat too much of the same thing. While all of the things you are eating are considered healthy, such a redundant diet isn't a good thing!

Dieting is not something you should hate, because the idea behind a diet is that once you reach your goal weight you can develop it into a lifestyle.

You don't sound like you are eating any fiber-- try having a healthy cereal (I like Kashi: Go Lean! Crunch) with a bit of fruit on it. A half cup of fruit is about 50 calories, and that helps you satisfy your nutritional needs. Even if your bathroom habits are normal, you need to consume... I think at least 30g of fiber daily for your weight.

You are definitely eating too little!! Your body burns roughly 10 calories per pound per day assuming you are non-sedintary, which means that you are burning at least 2500 (I'm underestimating for the sake of simplicity) calories a day by just moving around and not being a couch potato. You really shouldn't have a calorie deficit of more than about 500 calories per day-- you will hurt your immune system, digestive system, etc.

Also, take vitamins!

Don't JUST eat chicken-- have lean beef on occasion- if you need some recipies / ideas of what to do with it, drop me a PM and I'll dig through my recipe book. Keep some whole grain bread that you like around. I enjoy cracked wheat sourdough, because I like the texture.

A piece of bread has anywhere from 80-100 calories, and you can easily eat some low-fat mayo (a THIN layer) or a little bit of mustard with a slice of lettuce, the veggies of your choice, and some turkey (even skim-milk cheese if you want!) as a lunch. I would suggest sticking with a half of a sandwich and a half of an apple or something.

I know that some dieticians recommend that having five 300 calorie meals a day is better than just three meals, but I think that five small meals that ADD up to 1500 calories (or closer to 1900-2000, in your case) can be just as good, as long as your meal before bedtime isn't 1000 calories (eat more when you wake up, less before you go to sleep).

What dressing are you using on your salad? Try a healthy balsamic-- I love a salad with a tiny bit of blue cheese or feta, craisins, apples, and a balsamic. Sometimes I add some chicken (you can cook a chicken breast or just buy the premade stuff at the store) on top and have that as my dinner.

You don't have to eat boring and bland food to lose weight. One way to make sure you're eating healthy is to remember the color rule-- not everything on your plate should be the same color. Other than meat (which is good, as long as it's lean), stay away from white things, such as potatoes and excessive bread.

I'm not an advocate of any no-carb diet, but cutting carbs isn't a bad idea.

Do you really like rice? If not, sub an orange. Your body has an easier time breaking it down, it's right around 100 calories, and oh SO much better!

Don't eat eggs every morning-- they are healthy, but take a look at the nutrition facts. Nothing amazing there.

Simply put, don't put all your eggs in one basket.

As far as workout-- mix it up. DDR is nice, but try going jogging. Assuming you have two daylight hours that you can dedicate toward exercise, mix it up a bit. This is sort of similar to the food philosophy, but think about it like drinking (silly, I know). The same way your body builds up a tolerance to alcohol, it can to types of exercise. If you lift the same weights every day, it becomes easy, because you are developing a tolerance for that weight.

So you increase it.

You need to get your heart rate up, which will jump start your metabolism-- which will help you shed those pounds. Try jogging, power walking, or run/walk intervals. I know that your weight might make running hard on your knees, but DDR isn't doing you any favors. I mean, do DDR, but do other things, too. If you belong to a gym, go and do an hour at about 120spm on the elliptical.

Hope that helped a bit. Good luck! :)

So basically everything I have been doing is wrong?

And I don't really enjoy my diet, I do enjoy rice, and I do occasionally eat an apple, but nothing major.

I'll usually consume an entire Chicken Breast through an entire day.

I don't really count my calories, to be honest, like at all.

I'm going to PM you to find out about the recipes, I would enjoy something to spice up the diet, and I would definetly enjoy some options, same thing day-in-day-out feels like another job. Thanks for your feedback, more is welcome!

I replied to your PM

But thought I'd answer that question here.

You're not doing everything wrong. And you are eating good foods.

But rice is certainly not the only carb you can give your body-- esp just plain white rice.

If you do want rice, try some low sodium soy sauce with it!

I think that weight loss and health are very important-- but you can't completely hate what you eat. Food should not rule your life, whether that means budgeting your eating or binging.

One thing that I am just going to mention while I'm thinking about it-- regarding my fruit advice... is that a piece of fruit is better than juice, calorie wise. If you are going to buy juice, buy it with calcium in it so you are at least treating your bones while you treat your taste buds. :)

I'm thinking about composing a little recipie webpage (on my currently existing domain). My mother is a nutritionist, and we've always eaten pretty healthily around here-- even though sometimes I've struggled with portion control.

And assuming you do like chicken-- spice it up a bit! Sautee it in a pan with 1tbs of olive oil. Buy some healthy choice bread crumbs and very lightly bread it (portion control!) before cooking it (on medium heat, until done). This works best with a boneless skinless chicken breast, but you'll get good flavor with bone in (and save some money!).

We like to cook chicken like that and slice it over a Caesar salad (with Cardini's low fat dressing, and not a ton of it)-- use hearts of romaine, it's nice and crisp. I say no to crutons and yes to almonds (lightly salted is fine, and they're good for you).

After a meal like that you'll feel much more satisfied than if you just had a plain chicken breast.

Hope you enjoy those recipies!

Normally with my chicken breast I will actually end up cutting up some carrots, and some brocolli and mixing it with the rice.
And alot of times I do put Soy-Sauce into my rice, for the flavor, if nothing else.

I just kinda wanted to brag. I consider this my journal.

Today I got off work at 5AM. I got home, checked my email, etc.
Then I decided to would swipe my room-mates bike and go for a ride.

Something you should know, I only learned to ride a bike about 3 months ago (Yea, 19 years old, just learning to ride a bike) And my first night on it, I got hit by a car, so it takes ALOT for me to decide to ride a bike.

Well I went out there, and something was wrong with the tires, and chain. Normally I'd quit right off, and go inside and play a game. BUT this time I didn't! And I was so proud of myself, I spent an hour fixing what was wrong with it. (Simple things, but when you've never so much as touched a bike, it's rocket science.) So after all that I go around the block once, and I feel the urge to quit out of boredom. But I decide to spice it up! So I steal my friends MP3 player, and least to say! I didn't want to stop! I was having so much fun! I rode it for 2 hours, roughly 7 miles.(I ride slow.)

Then I was sweating buckets, literally, and I was about to quit, but instead I went inside drank like 5 glasses of water, then went into the backyard and practiced martial arts (Tricks, flips, Ninjutsu, whatever. Been doing it all my life, but I enjoy it) Then after that I think I will quit. NOpe ;D I went outside and played Basketball for about an hour, then soccer for about 30 minutes. I then went inside, did 20 sit ups, then took a shower, and here I am!

I am overcome with joy! I can't explain it. Like normally I only sweat this much playing DDR, but this time I did alot of things! I'm hoping I burned alot of calories. I havn't gone to sleep yet, so I'll just say what I have eaten since I woke up

Chicken (Grilled) with some carrots, broccoli and some rice.

Rice

Salad, non fat dressing (Good and healthy! Only 20 calories, all together, and like some sodium.)

Some more rice

And a Suger Free Energy Drink!

And about 5 gallons of water ;D

Now I need something for breakfast. (Your breakfast is my 'lunch' or 'dinner') But seeing as how I had 3 meals, I think I'm BACK on breakfast now :D Any suggestions? (Don't have any fruit, or cereal, I enjoy cooking!)

Thanks for listening to me brag! I'm just so happy!

That's fantastic... but can i put on my non-maternal maternal hat for a moment... PLEASE be careful when riding a bike with an MP3 player, you teenagers tend to play it quite loud, heck i'm an old fart and i playmine loud, but you want to make sure that you can hear traffic around you... you don't want tog et hit by a car again... and you are wearing a helmet? :D

OK - i'm done mothering... AWESOME JOB..> Brag all you want to -- ya did good

But seeing as how I had 3 meals, I think I'm BACK on breakfast now Any suggestions? (Don't have any fruit, or cereal, I enjoy cooking!)

breakfast could be egg white omelettes (use 3 egg whites and maybe one yolk for color -- or use the egg beaters stuff) put salsa on the eggs for some kick... and wrap ina whole wheat tortilla..

Or peanut butter on toast - high protein and good for you as long as you moderate the amount of peanut butter.

No helmet :/ Not even my bike.

And I do listen to it quite loud, because I can't hear it V_V. But luckily I'm not too worried because of the set up of my neighborhood, no way for me to get hit honestly. (Not too high of a chance).

I'm going to attempt to make the omelette now :D I don't really know how, but thank you!

Wear a helmet!

Because even people who burn calories can get hit by cars.

Biking is good exercise because it puts less physical stress on your knees (works them, but not like running) but still lets you do it for a while.

Just be safe!

I will have to buy a helmet :D But I don't think the helmet woulda helped me from the car from before :D But I was riding on the highway my first time of riding, so it's kind of my own fault.

Well, this isn't too bad of a thing, good start.

I kinda couldn't find a good diet to go by, so I may not be running at Optimum speeds, but I have tons and tons of energy now.

I bought myself a bike (and a helmet :p) And all that kinda stuff about a month ago, and now I go riding 20 miles a day, right after work, then do about 20 minutes of martial arts, 10 minutes of sit-ups/crunches, and you know, I enjoy it, it isn't tedious, I don't hate it, etc. And I'm getting a good tan from it too.

Well, so I went to visit an old friend, and I hadn't thought I lost anything, but they told me 'Dayum! You have lost some mega weight!" and I just snickered and said "OK!" Jokingly, but it peeked my interest, so I went home, and got on the scale. BAM! I weight almost 30 lbs less then when I started! And my muscle tone is going up as well! I only drink water now, I've drinking so much of it, my body kinda hates the taste of soda now. I think soda was a big part of my weight problem, because I've always been insanly over-active.

I've decided to up my biking route now, so I have the same destination, but I go a different street, because I feel as thought this bike ride isn't much of a challenge anymore, but it's one of the only spots with a bike lane...

But thank you all for your support, and I'm really happy I was finally succesful with something, and I hope I will continue being succesful! Thank you!

*bows out*
