Hi guys, I'm looking not to get into body building, but rather to build up my body (if that makes sense). I don't want 18 inch biceps and all that jazz, I want a lean and toned body, but with reasonably substantial muscle mass.
At the moment, I'm 6'3" and 150lb with roughly 11% body fat (I tested online and got just over 14, but since then I've dropped about 5lb - I have gained some muscle too so I dunno how much was fat and how much was muscle, but I'll get round to retesting at some point). I've only just turned 16 years old and I understand that I'll begin to fill out, but I figure that I may as well begin building up now, and hopefully my body will grow with it and I can maintain a good build for the rest of my life (dunno how much truth there is in that).
anyway, I'm a member of a health club and I've just started using the gym facilities (since my birthday). I've been unable to use it much because of other things getting in the way, but I plan to go 3 times a week (Mon, Wed, Fri) and do the plan I have been set by one of the trainers. I plan to do it twice per session (it's relatively all over: rows, chest presses, leg presses, rowing and spinning interval training and a whole host more) as the last time I went I felt like I could have completed it again.
I am thinking about adding in a Navy Seals workout (only the strength training as I don't have much of a need for any more cardio and I'm only looking to build muscle) which is made up of sets of pushups, situps, pullups and dips. This is recommended three times per week, but would there be any negative effects of doing it daily? If I were to do it thrice a week, should I alternate the days with the gym or do it in the same day.
tl;dr: are there any negative effects of skipping rest days when trying to build muscle, or will it just speed up your progress?
