confused

Hi,

I've been battling the bulge for ever. I have worked out off and on for one and a half years. Since december I have been working out religiously 3-4 x's a week. I do an hour to an hour and a half of cardio and then weights. Yesterday I was told by the pres of my gym that I am doing wayyyy to much cardio. I was told that when someone does too much cardio, your body will use the muscle as a source of fuel not the fat. I was told I should only 30 minutes. Then I should do weights. Will I see results if I follow this advice?

I was also told to cut out refined carbs, sugar.....

You need to emphasize quality of work over quantity. You need to cut back on the volume of work and increase the intensity.Look into interval training. It is extremely effective for not only fat loss, but general conditioning as well.
If you have been doing 60-90 minutes of cardio 3-4 times per week for awhile, then you have built an adequate base for interval training. One option is to warm up for 5 minutes on whatever cardio exercise you are doing (treadmill, elyptical, rower, etc), then beging the interval portion of your workout.Alternate between 30 seconds of work and 30 seconds of rest. The work periods are conducted at a near-sprint pace while the rest periods are actually active rest.Go at a much slower pace.Continue this for between 5-10 minutes depending on your fitness level, then cooldown with 5 minutes at a moderate pace.
Try these intervals on 3 non-consecutive days per week for 6 weeks and see where you stand then.

and cutting out or down on those bad carbs and sugar will help even more. cardio, strength training and proper nutrition are where its at. :)
