confused about what type of diet to try

i'm 16 years old and looking to lose the fat around my stomach and build up muscle everywhere. (My stomach is not really fat by any means, it's just not at the 6-pack stage)

should I go for a fat losing meal plan or a muscle gaining diet plan?
I do HIIT a few times a week in the morning, and somebody told me to treat this as a workout and eat protein + carbs right afterwards. If I'm aiming to lose fat then should I do this but then follow a fat loss diet for the rest of the day?

Also, should I carry on eating my normal bowl of cereal ("Just Right") as well as the post-workout protein?

I was planning on doing ab workouts every 3 nights, should I not start doing this until I move to a fat loss diet? Because I know this requires more protein.

Thanks for the help everyone's given me so far, I'm new to all this and it's really confusing to start with.

Okay, I want everyone to go read www.johnberardi.com and go to his articles. Then click on the nutritional ones and then read and read and read. He may not have every answer out there but he'll cover almost all the questions I've seen asked so far.

You can cut or bulk, doing both is way too difficult for a new trainee. I say cut first and then bulk or add some muscle, quit worrying about your abs for a couple months and just eat and lift.

I would say Just eat healthy and six meals a day. Stay away from fast food and soda and you will be doing pretty good. if you want to get bigger though. might as well go ahead and bulk up now and cut later. then you will have all that new muscle to help burn the fat later making it that much easier
