Confused About Info

I was reading on one of the other threads that you can't lose weight in targeted places. I'm just curious as to why not?

I've been back into my work our routine and I'm a bit smaller in my chest area, but at the moment, only I notice it. I've been doing a full body work out so maybe I'm smaller all around.

Here is my point. I read that for every 1lb. of muscle you put on, you burn 1lb every 7 - 10 days. I'm no expert, but doesn't your body burn the fat closest to your muscles? So if I build up my chest and arms with more muscles, wouldn't that fat in those areas burn faster than most other parts of my body?

To me that makes sense, but if someone would give a breakdown of exactly how this works, I'd really appreciate it.
 
You can't spot train, that's that. It doesn't matter where the fat is, if you're doing cardio and expending more cals than you take in, you'll lose weight overall. Sure some people lose their chin fat right away or seem to lose more in some places, but generally you can NOT spot train.
 
i'm not necessarily talking about spot training i'm more so asking, how exactly does your muscles burn fat?

from what i've read, the more muscle you have, the more fat you burn. i'm not talking about cardio, but specifically weight training. if i build my arm muscles, does it burn fat in my legs, my arms, or all over my body?

to me it seems our bodies were created to work efficiently, so why wouldn't my arm muscles burn the fat in my arms? are you saying that if i only build muscles in one area, i'll lose weight over my entire body?
 
You're really oversimplifying the body.

What you hear people talk about is adding muscle burns more calories or increases your metabolism.

And they're right.

Muscle is more metabolically expensive to maintain than other tissues. Not all, but some. Namely fat. So the less fat you have and the more muscle you have, the more energy your body will burn.

But no, adding muscle to your arm won't 'burn' the fat on your arm.

We're locked into our genetic coding we were born with and part of this is the dictation of where our fat goes and comes from.
