Confused about calories and weight loss

I'm 22 years old, 5'6 and weigh around 126lbs. I would like to get down to 115lbs, but confused on how calories work. I've googled a lot of "how many calories should i eat to lose weight" etc. and the main consensus i gathered is that you shouldn't try to eat less than 1000 calories a day, typically recommending you eat 1,200 or so. I do cardio for an hour a day as well as 3 sets of core workouts. I always feel guilty after eating even when it's my first meal of the day, I feel like I will never lose weight if I do eat the recommended amount of calories. I am fully aware that I'm not an expert and I know you have to have calories, but I still struggle getting myself to eat over 800 calories a day. My question is, how are you supposed to lose weight when you are still eating above 1000 calories? Seeing as a pound equates to 3,500 calories, I feel like regardless of how I work out I will stay the same weight if i do eat the recommended amount. It's probably such a simple thing that I don't understand, but I'm hoping if I see the logic in it then I won't feel bad after eating a small meal.

Weight loss is not simple, and everybody has individual differences, so a one size fits all solution is not possible.

you do not provide enough information here to work out your weight loss problem

however, you are trying based of BMI to go from a healthy weight, to borderline under weight, this combined with your thoughts on eating are a little bit of a concern, do you have somebody you can talk to about your thoughts on food ?

Your very low calories plus your level of cardio without any strength training is a recipe for muscle loss instead of fat, which may also be exacerbated by your food choices. loosing muscle weight instead of fat will leave you lighter but still flabby, not the slender fit look you are most likely after.
