Cleans and pushjerks: Not as good as I thought?

Well I have been doing a routine consisting of 8 different types of workouts each and everyday. In both days I've had cleans and pushjerks. I have generally put on 60 pounds of weight since I started and couldnt do the bar (more of a technique issue than strength, but whatever :p ) Doesnt seem like im getting overall stronger, just stronger in cleans and pushjerks? What muscles do pushjerks and cleans work anyways (LOL!!!)
