Weight-Loss Cholesterol Article

Weight-Loss
Also useful to know are your HDL (good) cholesterol number and the ratio between HDL and LDL. My total number is good, but my LDL is too high, HDL is too low, and the ratio between the two isn't in the good range.

That was one fo the story highlights

"Your total cholesterol is a pretty meaningless number," cardiologist says

Half of people who have a heart attack have normal cholesterol readings

LDL, or bad cholesterol, is very responsive to good nutrition and exercise

One to two drinks a day is fine for keeping your cholesterol in check
that unless you know the breakdown - the total number really doesnt matter.

Whenever I give blood - I get an email back telling me my cholesterol number - and they never break it down between HDL and LDL... Really kind ofa pointless exercise but it makes some poeple feel good that they'e getting osmething for their blood donation

If you ever donate whole blood, you get to see the cholesterol. They take your blood out and run it through a centrifuge and put the plasma back in. Kind of creepy feeling, but the more clear your plasma is the lower the cholesterol. When your cholesterol is high it looks milky and can clog up the machine. I know from experience. They don't like it at the blood clinic, either.
