I have been trying very hard to get to a level where I could describe my workout as having HIIT within it.
The understanding I have is that you workout for as hard as you can for 30 to 60 seconds, if you can do more your not working hard enough, if you can't get to 20 seconds you need to train harder to get to that level. Then you take a minute or so to get your heart rate back down to about (for me) 70% and then repeat the above.
For the first few efforts (minutes) I couldnt do more then 20 seconds, so I kept with it, eventually getting to 30 second and 40 second shots. Heart rate got to anywhere between 90-98% for the high intensity part. I lasted about 30 minutes before moving onto another machine and stayed a fairly stable 75% heart rate for another 30 mins.
A few machines later and I had been in the gym for 1hr 40mins which is bang on average for me, I cooled down, stretched and left.
Three days three workouts later (the third not being HIIT or real interval training at all, just a stable level ariund 70 to 80%) and I went to bed on thursday.
I was unable to sleep for hours, my chest then began to feel like it was burning, it felt exactly the same as if I had just gotten of a gym machine after getting my heart rate to 95%, but I was not sweating and I didn't feel like my heart was racing, it was just "burning".
Is this something other people have had? is this something to do with the intensity I was at? or was it something else and maybe nothing to do with it?
I am by the way, very sure it was not indigestion or heart burn, it felt very different to anything digestion based and if anything I noticed an intense feeling over my chest, as if I had just been breathless and was trying to catch my breath, but the main concern was the burning sensation, what on earth was it?!
I have been working out for several years now, am still fairly young and too young for any heart issues as yet! Does anyone have any advice as to what to do? I saw my doctor already who wants to do a heart scan, am not sure its that serious but do want to know whats going on.
