celery?

Hi, in science today my science teacher told us that celery is the only food that when eaten burns off calories, but not only the calories thats in the celery but the calories of other foods you have eaten that day, is this true?

In short: does celery burn calories?

I dont think so. Your body will still use the fermenting fibre or something like that.

However, it is a stupid thing for people to go on about. Celery, cucumber, lettuce and a whole host of veg have so little calories that just running up and down the stairs would probably balance a portion out.

All these people who come out with this celery theory with a smug look on their face- I bet none of them actually eat it on its own...

Well, I believe it's true. The body does use calories to break down foods and celery has little calories. Say if it takes 150 calories to break down the celery and that the celery has like 10 calories. This might explain why dieting with fruits and vegetables with no exercise but still lose weight.
