Catalysing fat burning

Hi,

I've come across claims that tea and coffee, but especially tea and especially especially green tea, help with fat burning, and that it's not just that the caffeine is boosting your heart-rate and helping you exercise longer before feeling tired - there are actually chemicals in them that help the body break down fat.

When I research "fat-burners", it seems to me that these are all basically stimulants - they help you burn fat by speeding up your metabolism.

I don't like green tea, and I don't want to take stimulants for obvious reasons (I'm trying to get healther - not go to an early grave). Am I right about these fat-burners being basically "legal speed"? Are there any foods that can help fat burning by catalysing the fat-burning process, i.e. just making it a little easier for the body to get energy from stored fat, without being a stimulant?

In short, no. Just eat healthy, and exercise.. anything else that is legal/safe/not-stimulant is trivial.

Thanks. I didn't know that about Omega 3. Actually, I already take a cod liver oil capsule a day. Looks like another reason why I should be eating more fish.

Fucoxanthin is quite a rare thing to find in natural ingredients, isn't it?

Mreik is right.....dare I say, as usual ;)

When you exercise (or even when you exist) your body needs energy....and that energy comes from several stored sources; there's really nothing you can do that will make the body decide to burn more energy from stored-fat.

As for "metabolism"...stimulants seem to offer two benefits: they increase our heart-rate and seem to make the body run faster AND they tend to decrease our appetite. But let me say this (from vast observation & experience), you can't stay "high" all the time and sooner or later your body takes inventory of what's happening and tries to persuade you to maintain.

Quick example: I took my trainer mountain bike riding...she burned a lot of calories and really tore into using some muscle she hadn't used (as such) in the past. We had a light meal, she drank lots of green tea and due to the endorphins she wasn't terribly hungry...BUT over the course of the next couple days she reported being EXTREMELY hungry and she ate more. What happened? The body knew it was running a deficit and hunger was stimulated. Sooner or later our bodies find the time & opportunity to try to recoop lost or depleted energy.....like a thermostat (or "set-point" theory) our bodies fight and strive to maintain a certain weight...and even the busiest person can find time to shove a 3,000-calorie meal down their throats, and often it's at the worst time....just before they go to bed.

Anyways.....there's green-tea, citrus-based stuff and all sorts of substances that are supposedly able to aid & help with burning fat and reducing appetite...but in my 1.5 years of battling the fat off my body, I've found the most critical ingredient that makes 99% the difference is what lies between your ears. If you want it bad enough, you'll make it happen and once you move towards that goal and lifestyle (without drugs & aids) it gets easier and easier. Coming to rely on drugs, substances and weird-science to gimmick ones way toward weight-loss is just a short-term solution.

Move more, eat less, eat healthy.....don't expect it to happen overnight nor expect to see changes in the mirror. It's a very long-haul journey but the journey begins with the first step....and when you get there, you'll certainly agree it's one of the best things you've done in your life.

Real quick, about the only thing I would suggest is making sure you drink plenty of good water....THAT is said to help metabolize fat as well as flush toxins from your body! :)

Thanks for all the replies.

I hope I didn't sound like I was hoping to get lean by sitting on the couch. I was really just seeing if there was something I should know about which could persuade my body in the most natural way possible to take energy from fat. But the point is well made and understood that there are no cheats available that are healthy and achieve long-term results.

I'm still gradually losing weight and seeing myself looking leaner, so I guess I'll carry on as I am. I do drink sufficient water most days, but I might occassionaly lapse, so I'll try to make drinking enough water a daily habit.
