does anyone else think extended deadlift sessions provide good cardio benefits? i cut back on running for a few weeks before a 10k i did and found it easier than expected(although i could have gone harder). i have been doing 1 set of singles over roughly 15-20 mins and i know my heart is up atleast 160bpm during and my resting is the same as it was when i ran more at 44bpm!

I am not sure about deadlift but when I do squats / leg workout, my HR is through the roof and I sweat like I am running.

nope. deadlifts are a very anaerobic exercise. cardio isn't just 'my heart beats fast'...its also about aerobic activity.

I believe I read some research by Cosgrove that discussed out anaerobic stresses can improve aerobic performance indirectly, but it took a long time and dealt more with high intensity 'cardio' that pushed the body into an anaerobic state.
