CARDIO or NOT TO CARDIO?

Cardio or Not To Cardio?? HELP

Hey everyone, I am 19 yrs old, Female, 5'5", 155 lbs (and losing!) and have been on a healthy eating and excersize regimine for 3 weeks and 2 days. So far I have lost about 5 lbs, which I'm very excited about, and I'm just asking for a little help!
Is cardio the best thing to do to lose weight? Or should I do weight training? Or crunchies? Walking? What is the best!?!?
I've been mixing the 2 thus far, but I've been slacking on my cardio (25-30 mins on treadmill). Please tell me I'm not throwing away my chances of slimming down!!!

hm, well, im no body builder, but i used to do a kick punch cardio class 2-3 times per week for an hour. it was high intensity and it really really worked well for me for weight loss. i havent done it in awhile.. (thats why im atthis site, so i can get some help and be a bit more fit again!)

But yea, cardio for me, really really really helps. when i do weights, thats just for toning up and defining my muscles, i find that cardio helps lose the fat :)

(maybe thats just me though)

anyways hope i helped somehow :D

Anything you do to burn calories will help you slim down. Remember this, weight loss is a function of burning more calories than you consume. The easiest way to do this is to raise your metabolism. A strength training routine (2-3 days a week) combined with a cardio program (5-6 days a week) can boost your metabolism week long. Cardio boosts your metabolism for 2 hours after you stop your workout. Weight training will keep it boosted for days after you train. The benefits of cardio workout are so numerous that weight loss is only one of the benefits. Cardio helps increase stamina, endurance, lowers blood pressure. Cardio is VERY beneficial to anyone who is trying to lose weight.

according to my teacher at anatomy and physiology class and my pt, for best results, you should do both. why? because the primary purpose of cardio is to burn calories (and raise your metabolism if you are doing HIIT) and weight training builds muscle. The more muscles you have, the higher your metabolism. Higher metabolism = weight loss (not water weight... fat loss!). ^_^ good luck!

you should definitely do both...get used to being active! i do weights every morning and the bike every night, but for some reason if i get off track or my muscles hurt too much, i keep yoga and pilates tapes so i'll keep active and in the groove!

Thanks : )

Thanks for all the advice and help : ) I appreciate it very much! You guys helped clear up some 'confusion' I had. Good luck to everyone!!!!
