Cardio and weightlifting in the same day

I've been lifting weights for a while now and have decided to add some cardio into it...Does it matter if I do cardio (like running the track or a treadmill or whatever) right after I lift weights...like...in the same gym visit(or however you say it lol)???

It will help, but you obviously won't be able to do as much cardio after Leg Day! :)

Personally, when I hit the gym, I do 10 minutes of Cardio to warm-up and keep my Heart Rate between 70-80% for the duration. I then do my Full Body Workout with weights, and once complete, I try to do 30-40 minutes of Cardio afterward.

I am starting to do Monday, Wednesday and Friday as above, with Tuesday and Thursday being a Full 60 Minute Cardio Workout, where I'm trying to lose weight, while training for greater stamina.

My workout has both... i do low impact cardio (biking, eliptical machine, etc.) about 30 mins on the days i lift (mon, wed, fri)... on my off days i rock climb usually about 90-120 mins... burns calories like crazy!! or i do interval running for about 30 mins (sometimes more sometimes less)

This has helped me lose about 10 lbs in 2 1/2 weeks and i can see the results as well... just make sure you are eating clean while doing this or you will see no results!

Hey Patesguy, when do you do your Cardio? Do you do it before or after your Weight Training?

I've found that an extended Cardio workout before my weights regime actually reduces the amount of weight I can lift. (Of course, this works vice versa when talking about a cardio workout on leg day - ugh!)

Good to hear your progress! Keep it up!

I do my cardio right after my weight training... i have been doing circuit training and my heart rate is usually high when im done my workout so i hop on a bike or an eliptical machine and go at it! usually only about 30 mins... my ass falls asleep on the bike and longer then that and i get bored with the eliptical machine... but i usually burn about 250-300 calories doing just that cardio and thats after a very intense workout about 30-45 minutes... my off days have been rock climbing and hard HIIT, today i did 25 mins balls to the wall and i am tired and burned about 500 calories just from running...

It depends on what you want out of it, if you are trying to gain size then cardio right after weights is not the way to go, this is a highly debatable subject so your going to get a lot of different answers

well my current goal at the moment is to shed the pounds i gained from my new cushy desk job so cardio after working out is the way to go for me... but when i was lifting to bulk i wouldnt do much cardio at all, maybe running on an off day here or there... mostly i focused on growth and cardio is focused more on shrinking...

I was under the impression that, after weight training, you should give your body some time to rest instead of engaging in more rigorous physical activity. If that were the case, than wouldn't doing a full cardio workout (meaning 30-40 minutes) be overkill?

In the past, I've tended to try and do cardio earlier in the day, and lifting near the end of the day.

thanks for the infor everyone....so if I do cardio right after I lift weights I wont ...like.....decrease my gains will it???...or will it?
