Can't seem to lose weight

Hi everyone,

Before I begun losing weight I was steadily increasing 1-2 lbs a week through junk food and lack of exercise. Now that I have begun working on losing the weight, I cut out 99% of the junk food (only kept occasional desserts) and I have adjusted my meals to be higher protein and lower calorie. My maximum calorie allotment per meal is 500. In addition to the diet changes I have been doing HIIT on an elliptical machine for 30-45 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

I am proud to say that since I made all these changes I have not gained any weight, although I haven't lost any either. I'm not sure what else to do in order to lose the weight.

My goal is to lose a total of 50 lbs

Any advice would be appreciated

Hey Windy! Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you have chosen a reasonable calorie allotment and with exercise I think it should work. How long have you been doing this?

Tell us more about yourself, your age, gender, height, weight, etc. And I suggest starting a diary and posting exactly what you are eating every day, for a while anyway. That will allow people to give you more specific advice and help.

Stick with us, we can do this!

i would suggest you get familiar with a major hormone that controls your metabolism... insulin. the equation is pretty simple... keep your insulin level low and there is a possibility of burning fat... keep it high, and you will never get at your fat reserves. some methods which take advantage of this concept in various ways... Keto, Intermittent Fasting, low carb (Atkins, etc).

sugar is evil!
good luck.

I am currently 17 years old, 5' 7'', and I have been floating on the scale between 204-203.5 lbs. Also I'm female.

I should also mention that due to a job that gave me access to sugar and sweets I gained around 30 lbs in 6 months.

EDIT:
Forgot to add that I have been doing this for about 2 months now. I stopped gaining weight a week or two in, but I'm yet to lose anything.

for some perspective... for your height you have a BMI of about 31-32. this is where i was about 11 months ago. you have quite a road ahead of you, but it is good you have at least become aware and have started to turn things around. what is your living situation? do you have control over your meal planning?

Welcome to the forum. Have you had tests to see if you have any health issues- sugar levels etc? It's probably worth seeing if something is holding you back. Try upping your metabolism by walking whenever you can, taking the stairs instead of the lift. Just moving more helps. Are you using a food tracking app? I use my fitness pal, some use cronometer. It helps to see what you are eating & often stops me from having something I really shouldn't. If you input your current weight & goals it will offer a guide to how many calories you would need to lose at the rate you want.
Have a look at the diaries ( https://weight-loss.fitness.com/forums/weight-loss-diary.9/ ) & consider starting one of your own. There is great support to be found there.

Thanks for the tips!
No issues with blood sugar. I do get a blood test each year with my physical and I was completely normal around 5 months ago when I had my last one.
I used a food tracker app before I began my diet, but now I just count calories and make guesses based on what I remember from the food tracking app about how much carbs and fat are in something. I don't limit protein becuase it's hard for me personally to get the amount that I need.

I have very very limited control over meals. For breakfast I can choose between eggs or pancakes (So pretty much every day I have one fried egg with buttered toast)
For lunch I have a bit more freedom. Becuase of my job, I buy lunch from some fast food place. I have been getting a side salad from Wendy's.
For dinner, I have no control over what I have. My mom will make what she feels for dinner. (I can pick to have more meat and less cheese and rice if we are having tacos, though)

Hey Windy, good to see your diary. Flyer is right, this may take a while, but I would not focus on the long run. I find just trying to be sure I eat right today to be a good, and achievable goal. And it doesn't take long after you get started on that to feel better and feel better about yourself.

I look forward to reading about your progress.
