Cankles?

I am pretty sure I have cankles. (large ankles)

But the thing is, I am quite slim. I am 126lbs and 5'7" yet I have big ankles!

I have done a test where you can see what size bone structure you have and my thumb overlaps my middle finger, so apparantly I am small boned. Yet I have large ankles?

Is there any chance its not fat but just fluid? And if it is fluid is there any way I can get rid of it? I am perfectly happy with my body apart from the dam cankles. I look stupid wearing skirts and shorts!

If its not fluid, do I just have to lose overall body fat to reduce them?

I don't think you have anything to lose just based on what you said your weight and height are. I don't know what to tell you, though. I have absolutely no knowledge of or experience with this.

Thanks anyway!

It isn't genetic, cause everyone in my family has small ankles, it could be too much fluid in my joints. I might go to the doc, cause it could be an allergy.

Try firmly pressing your thumb against your shin bone down just above the ankle, if it leaves a depression that takes several seconds to flatten out, you may be retaining water, which is something you should talk to your Doc about.

I have cankles too, except I'm not thin. But I don't think they'd go away if I become thin anyway. For me it's genetic, I think, because my mom is the same... I just don't wear skirts or anything :/
Or you could hide it with high heels (that doesn't work for me either for other reasons, but nevermind :])

Thank you for all your replies.

I have 8lbs to lose until I get to my goal weight, once I get there I'll see if they have decreased in size. Im taking fluid retention tablets at the moment, and if they're still big i'll look into leg massages and if worst comes to worse liposuction.

Probably not as far as liposuction lol.

Definitely consult a doctor. If you've experienced more inactivity than usual lately and are sitting upright more often (prolonged pc time), chances are it's just water.

A good home test is measure (visually or with a tape) your ankles when you wake up and before you go to bed. If your ankles are 'normal' in the morning and swollen at night this will be fairly easy to correct.

At 126 lbs, I doubt a doctor will issue you Lasix but pee pills and exercise (walking) and intervals of propping up your feet will more than likely fix this.
