Can someone help me figure out if I am calculating this right?

Hi there. I'm new here, and I have a question that I am hoping you can help me with! I have been working out since about December. I have 3 kids, and I'm trying now just to get rid of the belly. It's ALMOST gone, but the lower abs are a problem. I have lost several inches, no weight since December.

After I calculated what I ate today and deducted for my work out - typical day as far as what I eat and typical work out routine - the calories totaled 1256. I burned about 700 calories at the gym.

Is that how I go about calculating it, take what I ate and then deduct activity level?

Also, anyone have any helpful hints on how to get rid of this lower ab gut?

thanks so much!

You need to calculate your BMR-

the problem with saying you burned "700" calories at the gym is a little iffy, because it's not accurate, you should not use that as a reputable source. It's good to get an estimate but for example this is what I do:

my BMR is 3091 calories... I deduct 1000 calories a day( comes out to 7000 calories a week. 3500 calories is a pound, so I am aiming for 2 pounds a week loss.

hope this helps some.

I also work out about 5 times a day for 3 hrs, but I don't include those calories burned, it's a bonus. One thing though, in the BMR calculator you can choose how much you work out a week and it will calculate your BMR according to that.

Don't over think it. :)

Just figure out how many calories you should be eating to maintain your weight, then subtract about 30% of that. Let any calories you burn from exercise be "bonus" calories.

A good average for figuring out a good number of "diet" calories is to multiply your current bodyweight by 10 (if you're a woman) or by 12 (if you're a man). That should give you a reasonable amount of calories to eat and still lose weight.
