Can people check this out and tell me if it's a pile of.....

This website tells me for 1 hour of swimming, breastsroke - I burn 1344 calories? based on being 224 lbs

Is this nonsense??....must be as most others websites quote 300 calories per hour for swimming....

the other activities, like running and spinning all seem to have high calories epxenditure too...

is it's just coz i'm heavy i'm burning all those calories?:p

any professional advice would be appreciated!

lots of love

i'm pretty sure that weight has a little to do with. it requires more energy to move yourself the heavier you are, so it makes sense that you would burn more calories ... but, this is just an assumption.

Weight has nothing to do with calorie burning in water. I swam for 6 years for highschool swimming. Its all about getting your heatrate up, if you slack for 1 hour your not doing much no matter how much you weight. Your technique also matters if your a good swimmer vs a bad swimmer a bad swimmer will burn more calories cuz they use more energy. Do a basic hour of swimmin like 500 yrds warm up then 1000-1500 yeards and like a 200 yrd cool down but make sure to have your hard sets where you just go balls to the walls on a specific interval.

balls to the wall? :p

that's a funny one on me!

i was more asking about the website in general - is it accurate or i wonder if it includes BMR in it as well....not sure.

just wondered if i took up running at 5mph if i would burn the calories it says on the form?

I dont know, I wouldnt just base how many calories im buring off this site. Swimming vigorsously and swimming breastroke are the same.. Hrmmm. I would say the site is bogus but I dont know, they dont take into affect other things such as strength and what not.

I disagree with the post that says weight is not a factor. It is. The heavier you are, the more energy is required to move, the more calories are burned. With that said... it also takes more calories to maintain that weight.

I wouldn't make this too complicated. I really, really, really, really wouldn't. I think we talked before about finding out how many calories you need to eat per day to MAINTAIN your weight. Once you have that number, subtract 350-500 calories per day.

Then exercise. Move your body at least 5-6 times per week. Exercise with a mix of cardio activities and intensities. Strength train each muscle 1-3 times per week. Don't worry about the calories.

Just know how many calories you need to eat per day. Then workout. That's it. In fact... dare I say that I don't (and have never) counted calories. I just eat 1 carb and 1 protein 5-6 times per day. Each meal is 2-3 hours a part. That's it. No counting. Just excellent results :)
